Too soon for first 100miler?

I have been riding to work for a few months now, originally on a hybrid 20 miles a day.
I have recently aquired a Giant defy 2 Road bike and had intended on entering a few sportivs next year after a lot of training.
However, after a week in the Isle of Wight of which i took my bike i did a couple of 10 milers 13 miles and a 30 miler and have got the bug. Ive been thinking of perhaps entering the Bleinham Palace 100m sportive.
Im into my second week of cycling to work on the Giant and as i finish early on a Friday i got in a 40 mile ride home last Friday averaging 16mph. I'll be doing this route again for the next couple of weeks with the view of extending it to 50, 60 70 miles each week thereafter. This takes me up to the wc 27th sept for a weeks rest with perhaps a day of light cycling a couple of days before the weekend.
Would this be enough riding to perhaps prepare me for the 100mile Blenheim Palace sportive? I know only my own body will tell me so but i am quite fit generally but will this be too soon for me?

If you end up doing 70 miles in training you'll be fine for a 100. Just remember to eat and drink correctly and don't begin too fast caught up in the euphoria of the start.0

What sort of Bars/Gels should i be using before during and after the ride? I will try a few out on my long rides before hand.
Does anyone one know if this sportive usually sells out before the deadline? As i'd rather leave it until a day or so before the deadline so i know im on track for the 70 miles.0 -

Anything that you like, that is easy to carry. Recently on my long rides, I have had Trek bars, fig rolls, soreen and jelly babies. I save stuff like gels for racing, though they are a very handy pick me up, and a good backup.
After I have a protein drink with some fruit, and plenty of water. Basically for recovery you need carbs and protein for the best recovery.0 -
Sportives have feed stations I tend to carry a couple of bananas, one energy drink and water with Elete hydration stuff in it. Then just refill at the feed station0

+1 on the DON'T begin too fast. A 100 miler will give you all the exersise you'll want by the end of the ride. Especially on your first one. Take it easy and ride within your limits and at a pace you feel you can maintain. Your first 100 miler should be more about finishing and learning how to finish than speed. Eat lightly and regularly(at least every 25 miles)at the food stops and maybe munch half a power bar in between stops. Keep a little bit going into your stomach at regular intervals. And of course keep up with the water. I'm sure you'll finish and as a side note you'll definately be ready to get off the bike at the end(most people are).0
