360 or PS3?

  • Also, do you want to give Microsoft more money?
I know, I know, Sony are a massive, global company too. But Microsoft is associated with Bill Gates, who is a massive webbo. Sony is associated with Japanese technology, which is so cool, you're gay if you disagree. Fact.

PS3 all the way for me :)

More expensive, but worth it.. you get an average blu-ray player, Playstation Network is free, Xbox has a monthly/yearly sub fee.

Also, and this is just for Modern Warfare 2 (as thats all I really play at the moment), PS3 can't be hacked as much as Xbox.. sure, there are a few bits, but Xbox seems to be much more hack-able in the multiplayer world (aimbots, hack lobbies etc).

Black Ops will be the next big game (as will GT5.. can't wait!), I know I'd rather play a mostly unhacked game than a massively hacked game. As both are games consoles, I'd buy the Ps3 purely for a better gaming experience.

This is a pointless arguement. I much prefer my choice of console over the main rival as it is far superior. Anyone that says otherwise is wrong.

surprised no one has said BOTH yet... That seems to be my answer to all these threads (Flats vs SPD, hardtail Vs. FS) ... Anyone who says one is leaps and bounds ahead of the other is lying, if that where literally the case then this thread wouldn't exist as everyone would have just bought the far superior one.

For me it was a case of getting the one most my friends had so I could play as much multiplayer as possible. Having played a fair amount of games on both I'd say the following:

    Graphics: Not much in it.
Cost: Xbox is cheaper as a "start up" package, but costs even out once you get wireless adapter etc. Sony gives you a blu-ray player.
Online: Xbox wins by a mile...people moan about the cost, but really? 76p a week...
Controllers: My main bug bear with the PS3 is the dated and uncomfortable contoller.
games: Personal preference, Xbox has more, but take a look at the exclusive titles and see what you prefer - One thing is that some very large games are apparently getting cut down to fit on the Xbox DVD vs. Sony Blu-ray disc.
reliability Xbox loses this one obviously...but apparently the new look ones are better..

Its a choice of what your friends have and what games you would rather play. Xbox has forza 3, ps3 has gt5. Xbox has gears of war and halo, ps3 has killzone....you get the idea.

But if all your ffiends have ps3 and you have an xbox, you can brag all you want about games but they can just say loner.

Ive got an xbox and i like it cause of its what everyone has and that i believe in my opinion that the games are better (NOTE MY OPINION)

up to you on choice and what you would rather have

When there are people who have chosen both and have given pros and cons of each? If you don't like it don't read it ffs.

I bought a PS3, because that's what most of my mates had. Also, I got it (PS3 slim) for £200 in Sainsburys, plus MW2 for £24 :D

I don't spend a huge amount of time playing on it, because I've often got better things to do. So I've only got a couple of games and only actually play MW2, I'll be getting GT5 when it's out, so there was no reason for the availability of games to make me choose an Xbox over a PS3.

Neither are bad, as macandcheese says.

I got my PS3 and the game I wanted for pretty good prices, and I'm happy with it. I like the media sharing, free online-ness and iPlayer abilities of the PS3. My mate with an Xbox wants to get a PS3 instead, but that might be more down to the fact that the rest of us have got PS3s, than because one is much better than another.

I read an article saying that some nerd spotted that in an advert for the xbox, they used graphics from a ps3, as it looked sharper! Turns out microsoft maybe screwed because of this finding!

That's because it was Final Fantasy XIII - unlike most multi-platform games, it was developed with the PS3 as its primary platform, so plays to that console's strengths.

Most multi-platform games, however, have the 360 as the primary dev platform, and as a result the PS3 comes off worse – more pop up, jaggier textures, worse frame rate, etc. When it comes to multi-platform stuff, the 360 is usually the winner (see the Digital Foundry stuff on Eurogamer for the tech details). However, you normally won’t realise you’re getting worse performance unless you’re playing both versions side by side, and PS3 games have been catching up in terms of performance over the past year or so and devs learn ways around its…ahem, quirks.

Do you like online gaming? If so, get a 360, as Xbox Live is far superior to PSN – but at a price. Do you want to play with your friends? If so, what console do they have? Get that one – you can share games and play online with them. What exclusive games do you prefer – Uncharted, Little Big Planet and Gran Turismo (PS3), or Gears of War, Left 4 Dead and Fable (360).

Both are good machines, both have their pros and cons. In an ideal world, it’s best to own both!

    I have both.

Both have plenty of good games, online play is way better on Xbox (although the online community is far worse), PS3 has blu-ray etc.

If I had to choose one it would probably come down to whether I already had a Blu-ray player, and which one my mates had.

    Geek

Also, what's actually better about the Xbox online stuff? I connect to other players and play a game with (normally) no lag or stuttering on the PS3, what does the xbox do that's different?

I'm not saying it's not better, I just genuinely don't know.

It tends to be a lot faster connecting/finding games, voice chat quality is higher (I suppose that depends whether you’re bothered about a 12 year old American calling you a faggot or not…), it has all of the matchmaking options (so you’re playing against people of a similar experience/skill level as yourself), you can have cross-game chatting (allowing you to verbally abuse your friend who should be playing Left 4 Dead 2, but is instead playing Fifa. Boooo!).

That said, I’ve not played on PSN for a couple of years, so I don’t know what new features they may have implemented. I know they were talking about adding the cross-game chatting a couple of months ago, around the same time they brought in the paid subscription service.

Paid subscription for PSN? Didn't know about that!

Ah right, sounds like stuff that I'm not too fussed about. I tend to mute anyone who's mumbling at me during games anyway!
