360 or PS3?

Alright gaming types,

I'm in the market for a new console in the next month or so, as my pc i used for gaming has been banished from the boys room, as he's going to be old enough to move out of our room soon. Problem is, there's no room in the house for me to set it up again.

I've already got a wii, but it's not got that many games that i want to play on it. Got a few, but nothing else catches my eye. So it's either an xbox or ps3. I know it's going to be very personal as to who likes what, but if you had the money, and didn't have one or the other, which would you go for and why?

I like my fps'ers and rpg's on the pc, don't know if that makes much of a difference, as they'll both have cod etc.

Welcome!

They're remaking goldeneye for the wii, that's one I'm looking forward too.

    xbox all the way.

    cheaper.
better quality games and more choice.
    better graphics in general
xbox live is far better than ps3s multiplayer
kinect motion stuff out by xmas.

however ps3 has net (and porn, i checked) access - and functions as cheap blu ray

Xbox all the way. Much better as a games machine than the PS3.

Not checked in a while, but most ps games on the back of the cover used to say they were displayed in 720p, whereas xbox games were generally 1080p. As i said, not checked in a while so newer ps games may now be in 1080p as well.

although i will still be buying gt5 when it comes out regardless of resolution.

Not really cheaper any more, Xbox 360 elite which is the same 120gb as the PS3 costs about the same. Also using cheaper cost as an advantage is really a non arguement. It did cost less because you got less, plain and simple. It's like trying to say a smart car is better than a ford GT because it's cheaper. Once you factored into it the price of online play and wifi connectivity it wasn't cheaper. So I'd say now the Xbox would come out more expensive.
You don't have free online gaming. You can't connect wirelessly straight out of the box. The hardware in the PS3 is leap and bounds better than the Xbox.

I'm willing to bet most people don't have full HD tv's so they wouldn't be displayed in 1080p anyway

there's a 3D version of GT5 for the new 3D tv's. The PS3 doesn't need any mods for 3D gaming which is the next big step. If you use the playstation eye it will do other stuff also on GT5 such as 'head tracking'.

i would suggest the xbox. i have one and i love it. i have also played fps games on both xbox and ps3 nd i prefer them on xbox.

also, the controllers for the xbox are comfortable, even after 10 hours

  • The 360 is going to be as out of date as the Wii soon.
  • I read an article saying that some nerd spotted that in an advert for the xbox, they used graphics from a ps3, as it looked sharper! Turns out microsoft maybe screwed because of this finding!
It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

if you want an expensive bluray player, get a ps3. a games console, xbox.... most games are out on both consoles anyway...

it's a simple case of GT5 or TDU2 and kinect vs Sony's offering for example...

Uncharted 2 looks pretty good. Can get it from game with a 120gb ps3 for £250. Not too bad i think. I like the idea that ps3 is free online too. It's about 50/50 with my mates as to what console they have, so i guess it's down to which lot of them i want to play with. I've got about a month to decide, so will do a bit more investigating. Thanks all for your comments!

I have a the 360, but if i was buying a console now it would be a ps3.

I am willing to bet that most xbox games are not in 1080p and the graphics will not be as good as the ps3. Essentially, ps3 games can be written onto bluray discs so they have a huge capacity compared to standard discs for 360.

The only thing that draws me towards the xbox is that the live is much more sorted, i know you pay £40 a year but on a ps3 you can't just chat to your friends whilst playing different games (as far as i am aware).
  • Ive got a ps3 atm and would love to get another xbox, if the ps3 was mine and not the "families" id trade it in for a new 360

Coming soon to a PS3 near you.... IIRC lol.
  • The only reason i would buy a PS3 if for Gran Turismo. But for now i will make do with Forza on the xbox, it's just a shame it doesnt have the Top Gear test track.

  • Cyberbrat's got all three and a 1080p TV. Spoilt brat. Anyway, I just asked him and he says graphics-wise there's nothing in it. So the only factors in choosing would be cheaper price of the 360 and the blu-ray drive on the ps3.

Sony are about to up the 120gb PS3 to 160gb for the same moneys.

Gaming wise there isn't much between them TBH. But with the PS3 being WiFi straight out the box and interweb (read porn) and it can stream straight from Windows 7 ( xbox can maybe do this?).

I've also got Play TV so my PS3 it is a Digi TV reciever/recorder (upscales the image too). And swapping the HD was fairly easy and cheap too (currently gpt a 320gb one in).

I think most of my games are in 1080p IIRC.

  • the new xbox has built in wifi and a 250gb hard drive, can be got for 185 if you look around
and it can stream from a computer as well if you like

its all about what your mates have got. if you want to get online its better to play with your bro's as the bragging rights extend to the pub, not just til you switch off.
