Just riding home through the local park on my way back from a ride up my local woods.

I took my usual little shortcut over a small patch of dry, well drained, but normal, not manicured grass. 2 Mins later, riding along a little path i was overtaken by a park ranger van, that then pulled over right in front of me. The driver opened his window and shouted over in an angry voice, before balling at me " If i ever see you riding over the grass again, youl be wearing that bike!" then in reply to my slightly confused look said "im seriouse, youl be wearing it! dont you dare go near the grass again! Get out, get out! get out of this park and dont come back!"

I just muttered sorry and rode off, as politely as i could, he was obviously angry, and i couldnt be bothered to argue. This really anoyed me though, after all, its a public park with nothing to say you cant ride on the grass, after all, you can sit, walk or run on it! Thats not what anoyed me though, becouse if they dont want me to ride on the grass, fair enuff, i wont, but his manner, tone and words were frankly disgusting, he was very rude, and totaly uneccessarily harsh. it would have been fine if he had just said "look, can you please not ride on the grass, thanks."
I wasent skiding or anything, i wasent doing any damage! He was just so incolent, it made me mad!
Its prob not helped by the disrespectfull ideot BMX'ers that use the skate park, he prob views all bikers like that.

rant over. :x

Yeah, an angry man in a van against a kid on a bike, that's going to end well.

Josh, report it to the council. In writing if needs be, but get your parents to check the letter/email first. Include a description of the guy if you can. He shouldn't be speaking to people like that, especially as a council employee.

It would help with the time, date and location as well to figuring out who was on shift at that point as well maybe? Also get a van registration?

steve45 I agree you should stand up for yourself, but in this situation I can't see it ending well...

Yesterday, whilst reversing round a junction, a woman drove into the front of my car. No damage was done, but there was a slight scuff on her bumper where she'd hit my car (wreck, it's a bloody state!)

Anyway, despite me travelling backwards, and her hitting the FRONT of my car, she refused to accept fault

Go back and do a massive skid on the grass.
  • Just keep badgering the council until they reply or take action.

If my recent dealings with councils is anything to go by then unless you keep on at them they never respond to anything, and even then they take weeks to respond. Bunch of useless feckwits, phoned them up and i have never spoken to anyone so dumb in my life. I'm sure its just a bad experience though.

But yeah, complain to the council.

I think one of the commuters (I know, I'm sorry,) said that a driver crashed into her while she driving down a narrow country lane. The guy who hit her was driving far too fast, she'd stopped completely when the collision happened. But he claimed the crash can't have been his fault, because he wasn't in control of his car when they collided! :?

agree with Bails, but as somebody who sort of works for the Council get your parents to write in saying how distressed you were and make it quite clear

    Time
    Date
    Location
    Description of Man
    Description of Van
Include photos detailing lack of signage re riding on the grass

Demand apology and to know what action is to be taken against employee.

Make sure a copy also goes to the local councillor responsible for your election ward and also the councillor responsible for play/amenity/outside or whatever your Council call it.

    EDIT -
Also report it to the Police as threatening behaviour to get a crime number to include - really s**t them up
And if you're not allowed on the grass, why the hell was he in a van

Should get a few rings twitching.

    I hate employees like this.
Visit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.

    Who are you calling inbred?

Reversing around the corner of a junction is perfectly normal, it's one of the manouvers you're taught when you learn to drive.

I use the online thing. Within two days they'd fixed the massive pothole that nearly threw me into traffic, and told the builders merchant near me to stop using a forklift on the pavement.

Oh, I've heard that one before!

This woman came out with a gem as well. I told and asked her, "I was travelling backwards, therefore I was looking out of the back window. did you not notice me there, going backwards?"

She replied (and this is awesome!)

"Well how should I know, I didn't see you till I hit, you hit, your car, I mean, hit me"

"So you weren't looking where you were going?"

    "That's not what I said"

    "I'm afraid it is"

March 2007. Mrs.blitz had just bought a new Fiesta ST and because she doesn't like running-in new cars, I had to drive it for a few weeks.

It was two days old when I nipped up town at lunchtime and parked it in the street. On my way back to the car, I noticed a bit of a crowd had gathered. As I got closer, I realised someone had taken the junction too fast and ploughed into the car in front of the Fiesta :D
  • I bet you let out the biggest sigh of relief there.

I got a few looks from the people in the crowd as I carefully picked my way through all the bits of glass and plastic in the street before driving off. Really slowly.
