Well, given all the badmouthing that some people, on this forum, seem to spew out, towards riders, I would say that "humanity" is definitely not on their minds.

You seem to live in delusional world where this only happens on "this forum"

If someone is doping, and someone calls them a doper, is that a problem? Or a cheat?

You may call people whatever you like. Happens all the time, everywhere. Not just on this forum. Humanity is not about name calling though.
I think if you research past posts on the subject of doping you'll find more than a fair share of name calling by more than a few posters. You yourself insist that this or that
person is a doper or worse and you've done it a lot. If you think that it shows your humanity toward your fellow man I've got to disagree. It shows hate and fear. Not that you'll agree with that observation but I would expect as much from you. I think you need to quit worrying about who's doing what and why and when who has seen this or that and when. Get a hobby other than obcessing about cyclists.

I bet the Pros sleep well at night knowing you're out there defending them from hate 'n' fear.

I really fail to understand why you and Dave think it's not appropriate to be upset and angry if athletes cheat at sport. If we don't have any emotional attachment, what's the point?

    Oh, [pedant]obsessing[/pedant].

    Oh, [pedant]obsessing[/pedant].

This is not about being "upset" with riders. This is about dislike(at best) and hatred(at worst). So what causes this dislike and or hatred? I say fear. People probably don't think they could handle being around these people. They would feel intimidated, in awe, unable to speak, not know what to say(without feeling like an idiot), overwhelmed by celebrity,
uncomfortable at the very least with powerful people, perhaps the person is arrogant and you feel small around them and can't overcome that feeling. All in all it adds up to fear and when you fear someone it's alway dislike and hatred that are soon to follow.
Since pretty much no one will ever admit to being fearful they fall back on dope as the reason. I just see it as a lack of confidence in yourself issue. Happens to all of us, it's just that no one admits it.

Edit: The above is a little harsh... you probably are - at worst - only talking codswallop. Apologies.

Of course it is. Who would admit to feeling inadequate? At least on a forum. Maybe to themselves??? You can't tell me that there aren't people out there like that, who hate people because of their success, fame, money, etc.. Isn't that what feeling inadequate is all about? They are better than you. Or so some would think. And they are hated for it.
But, like I've said who would admit to this?

You've created a perfect irrefutable argument. Of course there are people out there who feel inadequate. There are also people out there who are plain stupid. They never admit to being plain stupid (especially in a public place like an internet forum) but deep down they know they are, and may try and mask it by talking turkey. But who would admit to such a thing?

My take on this is that most people like other people who cheat in life to be caught. Not through feelings of inadequacy but through a sense of natural justice. You can cod-philosophise about that all you like, but maybe you should turn your gaze inward a little, and ask yourself why you seem so bothered by these things yourself. Be careful though, you may end up with your head up your bot.

Fair play? I'm all for it. Games and sports are as fair as the people involved in them want them to be. Still everyone is looking for an edge. Go to Vegas. Is it fair that the slot machines favor the house?

But are they as fair as those involved want them to be? I don't image that there was some vote asking cyclists whether doping should be allowed.

Nor do I image that anyone got into cycling intending to dope. They just caught up in the doping arms race and the pressures of the sport, leaving many with little option.

I expect, that if, miraculously overnight, doping was somehow iradictated, the overwhelming majority of the peloton, clean and dirty, would be delighted.

(And, of course it's fair slot machines are in favour of the house. They never pretend that they're not. Over here, the expected pay-out is printed on the machine).

Well, how about this then? More than a few people, on this forum, have read pretty much everything there is to read about Lance, and these people say he's a doper because the proof is right there in front of us. I read all kinds of posts by the people who read all about Lance and I get the impression that it's not really about the dope. It seems to me that he makes these people uneasy, at the very least, and inadequate at the
worst, simply by being very successful at what he does. That's my take on why they are constantly putting him down. He's threatening, as a person, to them and they don't like it. Plenty of people in the world just like that. Why can't a few of them be on this forum?
