Doubt it. I saw them at Henley Regatta in July and was asking about hire purchase type schemes, looks like it's cough up the whole price or nothing from what I could see.

Might be worth giving them a call though.

Shipping's probably horrendous too, they're seriously sturdy bits of kit.

Thanks for that. I reckon it could be a good idea to get one of these for a few months over the winter. They're actually pretty good if you have the room and a sackload of cash.
God knows where I'd put it though, they're pretty hefty beasts.

Best bit about them is the visual display of the power on each leg at each point of the turn. It gives you really good instant feedback about how smoothly you're pedalling.

We're not far away from an alternative "real bike" setup with an SRM, Quarq or Metrigear powermeter, an ANT USB dongle (or apparently the HTC Legend has this built in?) and a bit of software for a laptop or phone capable of showing the fine detail of the power data in real time.

It's only the last step that's missing and the Wattbike uses Ant+ so I'm wondering if the head unit might be available separately or if Metrigear will ship something capable of showing their data in real time when it's released.

Something I could run in the corner of a laptop screen while sufferfest runs in the background would be awesome!

I have to say, all this speculation about new toys is saving me a fortune in actual purchases :-)

I would personally rate that as one of the more useless gimmicks.

    Question:
Is "smoothness" as defined by the Wattbike important? Is it desirable?
    Is more "smoothness" an improvement?

I've read somewhere that for some people simply mashing the pedals in a simple pistonic (sic) manner is as efficient a way for pedalling for some as pedalling in circles is for others. I know from my own experience that I do better times when i mash a big gear with no finesse, try and spin elegantly and I'm way off the pace. Not very scientific perhaps, but 'works' for me.

Can you hire a spin bike ? £75 or £60 a month sounds dear compared to say a turbo ?

G-Wiz was talking of the phone and software element and I came across this today

    http://en.pedalbrain.com:/

may be no need for a Garmin 705?

and a couple of others as well

If only Brim and Metrigear would bring their products to the marketplace soon, with a reduced cost on the alternatives, we could all use powermeters.
