Bargainous frame purchase - resulting in this :

And a lick of the missus' red nail varnish, hides the gap between the outside of the headtube, and the headset nicely!

Red brake cables due next month, as well as some red jockey wheels i reckon, as mine are getting a bit worn.

Bike is so much lighter than the Bfe, and feels a bit more spritely on it's first ride. Weight comes in at 26.4lbs.

Riding properly on Sunday, mixed with a bit of commuting, so can compare properly then.
I'm quite pleased with the build overall.

Now, how many people hate the red/green combo then! I quite like it!

Haha, no keeping BFe for now.... It all depends really, this frame was so cheap, even if i don't like it, i can get my money back once crc put the price back up. Or if it blows the BFe out the water, the frame goes and i make a little bit extra money back. And every time i ride this now, i get all festive!
  • Good work that man!

Not sure about the nail varnish. Good idea, but wont it chip very easily?

Hope you enjoy it as much as I'm enjoying mine. It's such a pleasure to ride. Makes the 456 look like a heap of crap in comparison :P

Shouldn't be that easy to chip, as it's not really got anything to hit it. Although if it does, no biggie!

Couldn't decide what to do with the stickers, so let the missus do the headtube, came out like this :

    SDC11972.jpg

Don't know whether to leave the rest of the frame blank, was considering getting some Xmmmas bop decals made for the top tube.

Nice, wouldn't mind one of those myself, quite like the idea of a single chain-ring up front as well..

Same problem I always have with all the frames I like and that's 20" seem to be the biggest they make. No good for me I'm over 6'6".

I'm 6ft4 and this fits me ok, although i have sciatica so i prefer a more upright riding position, and find one size down suits me and my back a bit better. The frame comes up quite large for an 18", it's 1/2" shorter on the top tube than the cotic bfe it shares the parts with, but i just moved the seat back to compensate for it.

Interesting, might be worth talking to them, and trying to sit on one.

I currently have a 22" Kona Caldera, and had to get a 420mm Thomson seat post to get the saddle high enough.

Also, is that a standard XT chainset, but with only the middle ring?

Think I'm a bit longer in the body. I'm running a 70mm stem too, so not stretched all that much. Although riding position is a very personal thing.

    (Awaits smutty remarks!)

Yeah XT pedal arms, with a Gusset tribal single speed ring. 36t off the top of my head, may be 34t. All i need for round here, limits top speed on the commute, but i can still get up all the hills.

That's what I'm thinking of, a 36T chainring and a new 11-34 cassette should cover 90% of what I use and removing all the crap should save a couple of hundred grams.

Can recommend the e.thirteen single speed rings, and they come in a range of sexy colours too!

Great, thanks, I'll have a look. Might start with a 38T and work down if my legs can't do the climbs LOL.

Been for a blast on it today, bloody hell what a bike! Hate to admit it, but i prefer it to the Cotic! The cotic with the 140 revs felt too steep on the climbs, but the same forks on the mmmbop just kept on going up and up.

Cotic up for sale in the classifieds very soon me thinks!
