Spent 5 days in Melbourne (Brighton Beach) and there were roadies everywhere. It's a great ride along the coast so I understand why there were so many, but I then found myself looking in a couple of bike shops at road bikes! :?

Shall I go and get my coat?

  • A bikes a bike in my book. I'd quite like a road bike to add to my collection, if I had the money and garage space.
Less internal organs, same supertwisted great taste.

Modern road bikes are sex on wheels without doubt. They've come a long way and I even find myself resisting the temptation to click "Add to basket" whilst browsing some of those lovely road bikes...

    Nothing to forgive my friend..

Just added a Ribble Gran Fondo to my slowly growing collection....
Its fooking brill, massive difference and make riding on the roads far more enjoyable.
Inbred stays in the shed for all but proper off roading, speaking of which I'm off to ambleside next saturday, can't wait :D:D:D

With all the potholes and speedhumps on the roads especially near me I sometimes need more suspension travel getting to trails than on them :o Seriously though it you can't get big air off a speedhump what's the point of riding on the road

Why are MTB economics; spend twice as much as you intended, but only half as much as you wish you could afford?
  • hmmmm, hybrid.

    its an acceptble compromise.

road bike is perhaps flirting with the dark/gay side.

road bikes are totally gay but also a great training tool. mon to sat im up at 6am, i meet a mate and we do 20-25 miles every morning. it has improved my fitness a great deal so when i get to the weekend i can jump on my mtb without wheezing and gasping up the first climb. and if im being totally honest i shaved my legs  looks like the gayness has well and truly set in, next i,ll be buying matching bibs and jerseys and eating soreen

    Haha!

What a good bunch you are, you're much more forgiving than I expected!

I'm now in Sydney, and there's a pretty nice mtb bike shop near my hotel, which I must resist. I leave for the UK tomorrow, so I need to hold out just that little bit longer! It seems to be predominantly mtb'ers here.

In fairness, popping out to the woods with your mates to get muddy is waaay gayer than road biking - truly the toughest sportsmen out there.

What's with this blatantly homophobic stance on road bikers?

I hate all this macho posturing associated with mountain biking - everyone has their opinion but the immature name calling of "gay" to everything a MTB rider finds not to their liking is the stuff of playgrounds. Grow up some of you.

And before anybody asks I'm a straight male - ask my husband  .

It's a thing a lot of yoooth do to call someone or something "gay" meaning it is bad. There is a South Park Episode which sums it up perfectly where Cartman calls some bikers "fags", the gay community are outraged but Cartman says the gay community are not fags, the bikers are.

I'm aware of the Yoof "gay"terminology, having worked as a Youth Club leader for many years. Ignorance and poor social behaviour is rife amongst teenagers we should be confronting this, not copying it.

And as for South Park.............. a programme designed my morons for morons.

Well, new bike/wheels have arrived, but Tubeless won't hold air, even with sealant.

So, until I get some Stan's, it's Thin Tyres for me.

"Wooo-Hooo, Roadies! Here I am. Come chase me!!!

Ohhh, you all look so Damn Guuuurrrddddd in those tight lycra hot-pants..."

alright mate relax.....its just banter, much the same as if you look on the roadie forums you will see mtb's being referred to as "gay".

sensitivity can sometimes be weakness if your life is governed by it. :D
