gaz the old pitches had wooden boards halfway up. They were great as this helped avoid this sort of thing and was a more predictable "6th man".
Regardless... i now have a broken (in 2 possibly 3) third metacarpal. woo!"I have a plan, a plan so cunning you could stick a tail on it and call it a fox." (from the Blackadder TV series)0 -
I'm tired, I know tht isn't ill, but, I am tired allllllllll the time at the moment. Meh, might go take a whole packet of pro plus in an attempt to stay awake.
I also ache muchly after climbing!Ride it like you stole it!0 -
I never tried climbing. I suspect it's something to do with being heavy, short and with arms and legs more in proportional to a weasel than person Should really give it a go sometime, just because.
As for tired all the time - one thing to try is keep to a strict(ish) rhythm of sleeping. Kinda worked for me. After a pile of blood tests (Oooh, you've got liver problems... No you don't... Oh yrs you do... No, wait, it's all fine now...) that's what worked for me.0 -
I usually sleep about 6 hours a night, 12.30-01.00(ish) til about 06.45-07.00
If I try to zzz earlier I can't. I would like to lie in later but work does not permit this (I work 6 days a week and some evenings too). On my day off I have so much to do I have to be up and about early.
On the rare occasion I do sleep longer than 6 hours, I just feel more ill though!Ride it like you stole it!0 -
I agree with tartanyak, because I have to concentrate and be responsible, I need sleep, and 8 hours of it. I'm very often in bed at 7 - 8 at night if I'm on earlies. For many years I scrimped on my sleep and found myself nodding off when driving, so now I'm very responsible (yes, me, responsible)about getting my 8 hours.
If I'm biking or doing anything else i'm fine on less than that, but workdays I'd be dozy without my kip. It is tricky with working shifts , especially when I go from doing lates to earlies with just Sunday off, but i discipline myself well. Its easier now Mrs G is working, and has work to do of evenings it makes no odds if I am in bed.
Strangely, I was also diagnosed with blood and liver probs, which turned out to be false.0 -
The amount differs between people. Personally, I find between 23 and 24 hours a day of sleep to be best Supposedly, it's just best to have a rhythm, rather than getting lots of sleep all around the place.
Doctors blame everything on teh liver. It gets such a bad rap.0 -
yeah, mine works perfectly given the abuse I give it, apparently I was just dehydrated. I find the best way to doze off when your not too tired is to pop on a DVD that you are familiar with. You watch it a bit, but because you know it quite well you dont concentrate loads and doze off0
-
When I was a flight attendant I had to sleep in 2 blocks of 4 hours rather than a solid 8 hours when I was on earlies, as I couldn't get to sleep at 7pm when I had to be up for something like 3am! So I used to sleep for 4 hours before my shift then 3 or 4 hours afterwards. I preferred working nights though...I think I was the only one that did!
Now I just don't have time to sleep more than 6 hours. I leave the house just after 7am and roll in maybe 10.30-11 at night and then have stuff to do like laundry, getting showered, tidying up etc etc.Ride it like you stole it!0 -
When I was a conductor I was the same, used to get home and doze, I fell asleep one night and woke up, it was dark, and it was 7 on my watch, and i was at work at 6 in the morning, so I rang up and said sorry i've overslept. It was still the same day, I thought I'd slept right through. In the end, i ended up doing permanant lates because i just couldn't hack mornings.
I used to be so tired, one morning I was reading the paper whilst announcing we were arriving at Birmingham new street, and because there was an article on a certyain Irish presenter, I announced "we are now arriving at Graham Norton, please mind the gap"
As I've got older, i cut out my afternoon nap, and I'm plenty tired enough to get to bed in the evening. I think its just getting used to doing it.0 -
Still leaves me the problem of not having time to sleep as my evenings are full of my 2nd job, training for my next instructor exam, trying to fit in some climbing and biking etc, and trying to have a social life :? Something has got to give but I don't know what! For now, it's sleep!Ride it like you stole it!0

Sleep is important woman! SLEEP! Is everything else still alright while being knackered all the time?
If so, man up!
If not, pick summat!
If meh, then :P0 -
jebus, how do you even have time for sleep?
I just gave up the social life, all my mates are boring anyway, both of them0 -
Well I have to work 2 jobs because I am a single person trying to pay a mortgage etc, not easy when you are on your own.... and I have to train for my exams as if I get made redundant next year I will need to rely more on that for a job!
So either I have no friends, or I don't sleep
FAIL FAIL situation.
I have this weekend off to go camping, hopefully I can relax and chill out a bit, and 2 holidays coming up in the next 4 weeks!Ride it like you stole it!0 -
I have no ailments other than the metalwork in my right leg acting as a barometer and telling me when it's going to rain.
However I am having sleepless nights due to the downsizing happening at work. Eating a little less too... (a good thing?)
So, this is not a health related wellness fail... but yes, my stress levels are up a few bars.... and I am feeling it...
/Rant = over... :!:0 -

Yep it's got that hippy shop aroma I love the smell too. Not recommended to make your man bits smell nice though:shock: Just mask it with Charlie or anais anais or whatever the hip ladies wear nowadays0

WD40. All the hip ladies wear WD40.
Mmmmm, WD40.
Or bacon. Is there a perfume that smells like cooking bacon?0 -
I would instantly ask out a girl who smelt like WD40 or GT85.

A funny, and completely true story...
Mrs.D's mum (aged 77ish at the time) was on the phone a long time ago comlaining of dizziness, feeling light headed and generally unwell.
We went round and low and behold, all was well and she was fine.
Day after we got the same phone call so went round again to find her well.
Again, the same the following day so we went round and stayed a while to see what was going on. Whilst fannying about I found a small tin of WD40 and asked Mrs.D's dad what he'd been using it for. Apparently one of the other kids had heard its good for old knackered knees if you spray it directly onto the skin. She'd been doing this and getting high off the fumes.Advocate of disc brakes.0 -
Ergh, back in Blighty, back at work and got a killer sore throat happening....and I'm hungry but eating HURRRTS!

did 2 while I was away, one about 15k the other about 40k. I survived but Holland/Germany is very flat (we were border hopping). So nothing gnarly or steep just tracks and a bit of woody rooty stuff.
My knees almost gave way after the 40k though! I had to take a bath after that, I couldn't walk when I got off the bike and had to prop myself up..FAILRide it like you stole it!0 -
