I learned that me, my bike, a nice gradual downhill gradient, a speed of 25mph+ and lots of rocks can really make a mess of my rear inner tube. 6 holes in the same tube. I patched it this morning and hung it up in the shed to remind me, but I am reasonably sure that tube will never grace the inside of my wheel again.
  • Lol, this was supposed to be a yay thread, what happened? Do people only learn things the hard way (ie. bruised or mashed)?

I've recently learnt to fit my own rear mech, bled brakes and realign brake callipers.

I'm feeling so YAY, that I think my next upgrade will be a new frame and forks and I'm going to attempt to build the whole thing myself.

(It will be done away from my children so they don't hear Daddy using 'naughty words' again).

To keep it yay... In the past six months I combined knowledge I gained as a teenager as well as some new knowledge and a Lidl toolkit to turn most of this and a few shiny new bits

I'd recommend having a go with an old bike to anybody... Nice to know that you can fix it without relying on your LBS :D

I was so disappointed when I saw the second picture and you hadn't used the bucket as a saddle and the barbeque grill thing as a bike rack. I thought it was going to be like an A-Team build

Not too much of a learnt 'something' new but a 'somewhere' new....

Thought I'd hit the 'Yay..' thread with a explore of a local woods, new to the area so never before explored, found some foresty single track and dogwalking trails, not a massive amout but a couple of ups and downs and places to practice techy turns.... Then stumbled on a mini jump park shovelled together by the local BMX and MotoX kids in the middle of nowhere. Proper cool, who knew! Somewhere off-road to hit when I dont have a lot of time, perfection.

Even a local dog walker stopped to chat and filled me in on another bit of local woodland that I'd love just over the main road. The dog wanted to eat my socks but at the least the owner was chilled.

    Good day.

  • Today ive learnt that falling of your bike at speed with your leg stuck in your frame and landing on your head gives you internal bruising :x from this i also learnt that i should buy body armour before i next go cycling to prevent pain :o
