Hello
I'm new here and i'm hoping to get some advice
Have recently decided i need to lose some wieght so bought a cheap bike and joined the gym, the problems i'm having are within minutes off being out on the bike my knees lock and i find it very difficult to peddle any further, despite when using and exercise bike i can peddle for an hour without the problem, am i doing something wrong? should i just keep trying?
The other issue i'm having is nutrional based in that i'm not sure on the best thing to have before a gym session or trying to go out on the bike, also while at the gym shortly after starting i'm running low on energy and feel sick, would an energy drink of some kind help in this situation and if so does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for any help anyone can shed on this and i apologise for the long post

Can't help with the gym bit, but when on the bike you could have your seat too high, or you are pedalling with the wrong part of your foot.
A simple way to get around the right seat height is to put your heel on the pedal, if your leg is straight and your knee is locked back then the seat is at about the right height. Make sure you are pedalling with the balls of your feet.
If this doesn't help try move the seat backwards or forwards and stick with it, it should improve with time. And now you know, and knowing is half the battle

Tony,
What do you mean exactly by your knees locking? Like mechanically, e.g. if someone were to try to bend your knee by holding your upper and lower leg, thy couldn't? Or do you mean muscle fatigue, such that you don't feel like you have the power to bend or straighten your knee?
Also, feeling sick in the gym.... what are you doing exactly, what do your gym sessions look like?

Tony - I doubt that you're running low on energy shortly after starting at the gym mate. Maybe its just the effort your putting in making you feel sick, especially if you're new to this exercise game? Top and bottom of it is its going to be hard going, and drink water rather than energy drink at the gym.
If you are new and knocking on a bit, and a bit/lot overweight, maybe get a check-up at the docs.
Knees locking up will most likely be the bike set-up. Usual beginners mistake is to have the saddle too low, but google "bike setup position" and find plenty of info online.0 -
thanks for the tips on the seat, had a quick check and it does appear to be right
By locking up i mean i just cant move them to peddle any more, rather than literally locking up
Regarding the gym, just ignore me i'm an idiot, hadnt crossed my mind about drinking anything while doing the gym stuff0
