% of max power

Recently bought a turbo trainer with built in power meter for when the weather is bad or when i cant stomach the ride throught stockport town centre to get into the peak district.
Had a good look online for different interval workouts of which there are many, my only trouble is that they all seem to display a percentage of your max power in watts as the intensity level.
This would be simple enough if i knew how to work out what my max power was??
Can enyone help me find out what this is?

Max power over what duration?
Try this:

You'll probably find they are talking about %FTP (functional threshold power), which is the max steady power you can do for an hour (i.e. 25M TT type effort).
There are loads of experts on here - try a search for forum search for FTP and you'll find all you need....and more!
A rough FTP can be gained by doing a good warm up and then seeing what you can average for 30 mins. Multiply that by 0.95 and you probably won't be far off - good enough to get going anyway.
edit - Alex beat me to it - cheers.0 -
thanks guys will have a look into this tonight0
