...how many of you own road bikes?

I know there's quite a few on here who do, but I'm sure there's plenty of other's who hide their Dark Side tendencies.

So, come on, own up, who's got what?

Me:
Custom Reynolds 531sl frame, mixed Campag 8sp componentry, pix in sig.
Ribble TT bike, 105 groupset, again pix in sig.
Focus Mares, pretty stock, pix in sig.

I'm thinking of buying one - just a Defy 4 to get a basic skinny wheel for those "I dont want to get dirty" days.

Bought a giant SCR4 two years back; it gets no love, no attention but keeps going regardless. I Like it.

want one just for the speed.

however, think i would wreck it. Im pretty slack with laws when it comes to urban riding so i need somthing that can jump up kirbs and handle stair sets...

    one of these please.

I've got a hybrid but it can't be a real road bike as roadies sneer at it, so that means I'm still as straight as can be.

    Good for commuting, mind.

Makes me laugh, all the sneering roadies in the Commuting section are already talking about their winter bikes... mostly hybrids hahaha

Gazelle Tour de l'Avenir - cost me about £270 which was a lot of money back in 1986. It's probably done a couple of thousand miles.... but I've not ridden it in years. Too much traffic on the roads these days, and with kids, not enough time to enjoy the epic rides.

I was hoping to win a new carbon bike on the ITV4 Tour de France competition. No luck as yet.

    As below

    m40exccfforks1large.th.jpg

Cost me just over £300 to build it, (used) bike included. It's rigid (eXotic forks) with HS33 hydro rim squeezers, Schwalbe 2.35 Big Apples, ODI Ruffian grips, WTB Rocket Race saddle, Welgo mashers. Crudcather and a Tesco bell.

It's awesome and it does turn heads among those who "know and understand" bikes.

I am leaning towards buying a carbon framed road racer, however space is a premium where I am and I will need to move into a house with a secure garage or large ground floor room before adding anything else to the bike fleet.

I do, and unlike you lot appear to have no latent doubts about my heterosexuality.
Although it is a 20 year old one I got off Ebay for a fiver, so roadies sneer at me too. (Reynolds 531 though and in perfect condition, so I'm happy).
Gets used for charity rides, and occasional blasts around the lanes of Surrey.

I tried a couple last week at BRL out on the circuit. They were bIoody fast, but I never really felt very safe on them, and that was out on a closed circuit. Every tiny crease in the road felt huge, and the brakes felt like they'd take forever to actually stop you.

I guess it just took me by surprise at just how far removed from MTB riding it is. Different skill set, one I don't posess, and don't particularly want.

I do too, Trek 1.2 with a couple of alterations like the Tiagra crankset. I love it, only really in the summer though, come winter it'll be put into hibernation and my MTB will come get filthy with me in the woods

Got a flatbarred hybrid for commuting on. Bizarrely it's my heaviest bike  Very basic but it stops and goes.

Haven't got one here. Use my marin for everything.
I have toyed with the idea of getting a hybrid for commuting, but I do love jumping stair sets and stuff on the way to work, so might just stick with my mountain bike.

Maybe one day I'll actually get round to properly finishing my hardtail, and use that as a commuter.

I do, but i do make a point of wearing baggy's or at least jeans and a t-shirt when i'm using it for short journeys of under 10 miles. It's also a lot of fun to go past a proper roadie when dressed like this, it kind of annoys them, can't imagine why

In all fairness to the bike, i think it has sharpened up my handling skills, it's a lot less forgiving than the mountain bike when something goes wrong

Did it in my baggies, the dildo shorts will be with me presently though! I'll probably need to pick up some Vaseline to make the transition less noticeable
