Thank god for cycling news feed of the stage. The BBC live text is a fookin disgrace - its like its edited by a 10 year old who has no idea of what is going on - monumentally embarassing, it really is. Mind you its the same with the live text for the football, they appear to employ people to do the live commentary who have no interest in sport.

Oh, sorry. Maybe. Depends what Menchov does I think.

You mean how much he loses on the descent?

Yeah, I'm not sure of the time gaps here, but Menchov is the next best man on GC still in the hunt.

Why isn't VDB doing one pull. Basso is the man.

Why should he? Basso is the one who's backed for the Podium let him rie until he cant ride anymore, then drop him.

A graphic comes up showing Charteau leading Pineau in the KOM classification, followed a minute later by Phil and Paul having a long conversation about them being equal on points.

Because two pulling is better than one. Basso should have made signals but think he is quiet. Quality rider.

VDB puncture - now he will have to ride solo.

They are level on points, but Chartreau leads as he won the HC climb (the only in the race so far).

2 pulling is better than one for Basso in that situation. As far as VDB is concerned it's an easy opportunity to gain time on everybody Basso is distancing and then Basso. In a 3 week race, you don't waste energy when you don't have to. It's Basso's responsibility to ride there.

The tour website thinks that Wiggins is riding in the same group as Evans and Sastre - nearly 10 minutes behind the leaders.

    Any sightings of Wiggo?
L'Equipe today was quite dismissive saying 'oh, bye-bye podium'.
Yeah, maybe but that's L'Equipe. Whatever. They're a bunch of wankers aren't they.

2 Talents (with a capital T) head and shoulders above the rest.

    Sounds about right.

Does this cast any more light on last years "slow" Tour?

    I think it does.

That's what I think. Last I saw of him, he was with Lofqvist a few hundred metres ahead of Evans (about 5km from the summit)

Gap to Samuel Sanchez going back up. He'll find it hard to chase now the descent's finished.
