A coach/trainer for novice in Southampton.

I used to do a bit of recreational cycling quite a few years ago.and after a knee replacement and putting on a huge amount of weight I would like to start cycling again.

My aim is to do a serious long ride next year - not sure what yet, but I need to find someone to sit down with and discuss training/nutrition etc. and to track my progress each week.

What I need is a personal trainer who concentrates on cycling, but is not an elite coach.

Does such a person exist and will I be able to find one in the Southampton area?

Good coaches can coach elite or non elite people.
You tell them your goal ie lose weight, get fit etc and they will devise a programme for you.
An elite coach won't say, no no you don't want to just lose weight, you wanna ride a 20 for a 10 as well! :D

So Google a few and give them a call and have a chat and decide which one you like best.

I would say your best bet would be to join a local cycle club (Sotonia or DHC) and go on rides with them on weekends. Much friendlier than spending much more time and expense with a personal trainer.
