Elbow pain

Hi,
I have recently started cycling on roadbike... Have done somehow MTB in the past.
I have now been riding for three weeks and my rear end have now adjusted to the seat and position.
But I have some pain in my elbows when I stretch my arms. I have not seen anyone else talking about this kind of problem in the forum so I wonder if anybody have an idea about why this happens.
I ride most of the time with a grip at the brake handles or just behind.
Road conditions are kind of ok, with a little rough surface now and then.

Hiya,
I've been road riding for about four months now and have had the same issue as you. Like you I also came from a mountain biking background but had never had any problems previously. The pain only seems to happen in my right elbow and becomes apparent when straightening the arm fully. The two reasons I have heard that may account for it are either that the arms are being held too straight, so they are not effectively absorbing the shock from the bumps on the road or that your stem may be too long and too much weight is being placed on the arms.
I keep my arms fairly relaxed and bent anyway when riding either in the drops or on top so I have shortened my stem and that does seem to have relieved the pain somewhat. It is still there but nowhere near as uncomfortable. I'm not sure if it is the reason but it does seem to have helped me.Slide...0 -
Thanks for the post.
I have just two days ago out on a shorter stem and I will try to have a look at my arms during the ride to see if I in fact out to much strain on them.

I'd also consider how tight you are gripping the bars - keep you hands, wrists and shoulders relaxed.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0
