Hi Guys - after some advice for some road tyres - I seem to suffer with punctures often - runining some Vitttorio Rubino at present - thinking of swapping out as I put some kevlar tape inside which is weighing my zipps down now & the puntures are still happening - can anyone recommend a good puncture resistant tyre for my 404s which will also give me some good roll??

Words defy me- you've gone out and bought a set of grand plus wheels and have seen fit to shod them in just £30's worth of Vittoria's worst teflon formula rubber?

How much to you want to spend?

If you simply can't stand punctures, why don't you buy some heavier tires? Something with a bit more rubber covering them?

Raise a dispute with Paypal and get onto Wiggle about it. They can't get away with that.

Can't say about clinchers because I don't use them, but try a heavier tire, rated as a training tire, not a racing tire.
I've had great luck with Tufo Tubular Clinchers model S-22. It's their basic training tire, has a bit more(thicker) rubber on it, and gives me more than it's share of mileage. I'm sold on tubular clinchers, and regular tubulars.

What is wrong with Rubinos? I have Rubino Pro's and they're excellent.

You'll struggle to beat the conti GP4000s' performance/puncture-resistance combo.

    See this test report:-

They sure are, but Steelem is a n00b.

Zipps should have Vittoria (open) Corsa CX on them really though.

Once again I can't say but you can usually tell a sturdier tire by simply feeling how thick
the tread is. Thicker tread and plies usually equals better puncture resistance and a tougher tire. You might also try thicker tubes. I think Bontrager makes or used to make a tube called "flat proof" or something along those lines. Nothing really special about it except it was quite a bit thicker than a regular tube and hence more puncture protection.
There are also the various sealants that you can use and I'm guessing that most of them work fairly well for SMALL(emphasis on SMALL-very SMALL) holes.
To be honest there is no miracle tire / tube out there. If you're running on bad roads with debris and glass being fairly common, I don't see any options except to run heavier rubber.

If you're looking for bling, well, that's a whole new ball game in which only you can decide
which tire you want. And probably won't have much to do with a TOUGH tire.
Remember, if you require pretty and tough you're not going to have too many options.

Just did one day of the tour of wessex and 3 days of L2P on a set of new Pro Race 3's and not had a puncture.

    worst teflon formula rubber?

You work it out.... I like my bike to go in the direction i point it, not create random tracks.

And whilst your at it i know you run 'Italian' Tyres on 'French' rims - shoddy standards and utterly deplorabable
Depsite the fact that Vittoria's are now produced out it Taiwan and Mavic's low end wheels come out of Bulgaria i still cannot let this go.

The next time i see you i'll give you some proper tyres..

If you want puncture proof tyres buy some Schwalbe Marathons or Speecialized Armadillo's. Don't, for the love of god, put them on a pair of Zipps!

Fact is, you WILL get punctures no matter what brand or model of tyre you're using. All you can do is minimise the risks by pumping them up to the correct pressure amongst various other minor things.

Rubino's are about as tough as they come for 'performance' tyres. Don't waste your money getting something else unless they've worn out.

    Opps yep sorry man.

I've ridden Tricomps and imho they're comparable with Rubino Pro's. Vittoria Diamante, Pave and Corsa all ride far better than Tricomps personally. I've never had an issue with punctures though with any tyre i've used. Only if the farmers have been cutting the hedges (and there's a lot of farmers in Wiltshire!).

you say correct tyre pressure - 100 psi is this right or wrong?? theres no mention of this in the zipp handbook
