My favourite descent on that same ride (it's the Bradwell circuit route in aforementioned guide book) is Bradwell Edge - technical and narrow (and lots of overhanging brambles - look like I've been self-harming over the weekend) but I rode pretty much all of it and it was great fun
SSHHhhhhhhhhh.
Most people can't find it and ride straight past down to Brough0 -
If your new to the Peaks, please ride Cut Gate - its wonderfully dry, fast and muchos fun at the moment! Still like the classic Ladybower route myself, but I suppose that could be for nostalgic reasons as it was the first route I rode in the Peaks0

This may also be of use...

thanks, you don't happen to have a memory map route or GPX file of Cavedale route do you???
......or anyone else for that matter??0 -
I took a group of novice riders there for a three day trek round the Dark Peaks including Cut Gate and Jacobs. They were all pretty much overwhelmed but everyone completed it and everyone fell off. 30 miles a day carrying packs for three days. Baptism by fire to say the least!
Check out the routes:

Day two

Day three

The route distances are a little off as they don't take into acount the true distances when applied to actual riding.0 -

Crikey
I'm no beginner but I found the Peak District well out of my comfort zone! Your novices are obviously made of sterner stuff!!Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away....
Riding a gorgeous ano orange Turner Burner!

yeh but there's a ton of other stuff to tackle that you'd be more than comfortable with. You really shouldn't have done the tough stuff first you just get overwhelmed and end up getting put off when really you should be enjoying the leisurely fun stuff and building up.0

Route no.7 - the Bradwell Circuit takes you down Cavedale (you need to join the forum to login though I believe)

Just come back from the peaks and rode the Bradwell circuit.. Took us ages to find the above mentioned piece of track, but found it in the end.
I have to say it's as good a piece of natural singletrack as I've ridden anywhere in the country, it was spot on....0 -

Ah the joy of the Garmin unit on the bike to tell you where it is0 -

What did you think to the route?
I live less than an hours drive from the peaks and still haven't ridden there!
I've been to trail centers (I know!) in Wales and to Dalby forest a few times but annoyed with myself for not getting out in the peaks, some of the best UK riding on my door step!
I ride a hardtail and after watching some youtube vids of people on Jacobs Ladder I must admit it looks a bit intimidating! I've been riding regularly for the past 3 years, am fairly fit and feel comfortable with red routes and some black runs and jumps etc.
What would you people that ride the peaks a lot recommend is a good trail for someone with my experience?
I currently run 2.35 tyres at around 35 psi for on rocky stuff, what would you guys recommend for the peaks?!
Cheers, J.I love the sound my tyres make on dusty single track!0 -

i've not looked back since dropping my PSI to 28, on my 2.3's. Rolls better surprisingly, takes up the trail spam better0 -

been riding about as long as you and done Dalby & Afan and went to the Peaks for the first time about 14 months ago and haven't looked back, been most weekends since the first visit! my first ride was the Ladybower Classic starting at Fairholmes (40 mins from Donny if you set off early) and doing it clockwise. you WILL have to push some of the ascents (the first up to Winstone Lee Torr is the worst on this route but it gets easier as you get higher) but its well worth it.
Let me know how you get on [/quote]0 -
Thanks for the replies people.
Thinking of trying Ladybower first as I know people that have ridden it already so might see if they fancy going again!
