Does anyone have a map of the route. Looked on the website but can't find it. As I only live a couple of miles away I wouldn't mind giving it a go (one lap should just about kill me). I am currently looking for some inspiration as I have been off the bike for a year or so.

This happened regularly with guys packing even when in the top10.
The course was really set up for a few riders who have the time to put in very high mileage...more so than in other recent years, which explains the 11 finishers who did all the prescribed course. Tough call on the domestic team managers who were no doubt having to choose between the Tour Series or Nationals for their top riders as those in the Tour will have struggled to do much training in the last 5 weeks.
What a load of poppycock.
You try telling the riders out on the road that it was 'Just a procession' - that was a perfectly hard race and as beautiful as they come and chapeau to anyone whose name made it onto the results sheet.
The course was not 'put on' for a few riders - the original plan was to use a much larger loop first then head onto the Barley course later on. Unfortuantley the local Fuzz wanted the top end of 5 figures to police the road closures.
As for your comments about the team managers - i want whatever acid you've been taking - can you really see Herety pulling alongside one of this riders telling the to ease up as they've gone to hard in a couple of midweek crits - This was the Nationals for gods sake
The procession point related to spectating...not much happening to watch as there were large gaps and no changes from so early in the race. Every lap was just like watching the lap before except the gaps got bigger.Clearly those who chose to ride to the end deserve a lot of credit.
You missed the Tour Series point or I didnt explain...Rafa and the other leading Tour Series managers together with their riders may well have had to decide some time back whether The Tour Series or Nationals were their priority as 5 weeks of trailing round the country racing 2-3 crits and a Prem Cal every week would not allow the training volume necessary to handle such a long tough race. A point confirmed on a number of Rapha tweets.0 -
I rode along yesterday and had a very emjoyable time.Very well managed and set up.
It was a shame so many dropped out and became more like a formula one precession. But this is racing and it does happen.
Yes the course was hard and Miller compared it to a mountain stage in a major tour so many should be ok with this type of riding.I think it was just a great group formed and rode away.
It was great to see so many pro's jusy sitting around and giving the time to chat to the fans.0 -
Paul Esposti in 10th place, amazing as he is almost retired at 38 years of age, the man is a monster on the bike.
I raced against Paul as a juvenille and junior and he is hard as nails.
Chapeau sir!Obsessed is a word used by the lazy to describe the dedicated!0 -
What happened to wiggins then. Was he saving himself for the tour?0

You must have been the same era as me, he was in the Welsh junior squad when I started out as a junior. I thought he gave up years ago so if he did that's not a bad comeback!0 -

The original plan would have been perfect. As it was, it was straight into the action too soon. The riders who lined up in the second half of the peloton might as well not have bothered. Main example - Chris Newton. He was in about the 3rd group at the end of the first lap and game over, whereas he's been the domestic roadie of the season so far.0 -
why when you log on to bikeradar home page is this news not on the home page? its the result of our british national championships for gods sake, yet high up is a time trial result! congrats to g to winning and will be nice for the first time to see the jersey in the tour peleton, however for anyone who rode on the day in that heat well done lads!0

Yep, he raced in Europe for a bit and is now living and racing in the states, he is doing well again, makes me wish I kept racing past junior level now as I was up there with him back then, beer and women got in the way :roll:Obsessed is a word used by the lazy to describe the dedicated!0 -

Just wan't to say I really enjoyed watching that race. And that it's going to be great to see a Welshman wearing the British champs jersey in the Tour
Now let's see if he can do better than Wiggins !All my life I've wanted to be someone; I guess I should have been more specific.0
