What happened to Richmond Park??

I went to Richmond Park last night to discover they had spread so much gravel on the road that it was extremely difficult to ride and even harder to stop or corner... Does anyone know when they did this and the reason behind it??

Typical local councils botching a job.
Rather than relay the roads, they spread some chewing gum over the road and tip stones on it, hope a bit sticks and have no regard for cyclists and windscreens. Cheap and easy for the company and councils.
They've been doing it all over the place and it annoys the fuck out of me. i nearly binned on a new section on saturday near Staines, didnt realise it was deep or they'd done it (having ridden it the day before).
Makes seeing potholes a lot more challenging too.0 -
The contractors have over the past two weeks just started the resurfacing work as they are having to redo it since the last time they did it last autumn it was such a bodge job.0

The contractors are due to complete in a few days I believe, then there will be a roadsweeper removing loose surface gravel, particularly from the edges, at regular intervals like last time. Hopefully it sticks properly this time. Expect the surface to be gritty for a good few weeks though until it all beds in or gets swept up. The new aggregate used is supposedly 'rounder' and less of a puncture-hazard to bike tyres.
If any riders on here happen to ever drive through the park then please drive well over to the side (obviously when clear of cyclists) to help it bed down quicker around the lines we all ride along!0
