Yeah, not lloking good but wil probably go for it anyway myself. If it's horrible can always turn around somwhere near Dorking or get the train back

Nothing like the smell of wet and sweaty cyclists in a train carriage :)

Thats a good point about just turning around. I still intend to be there with a friend.

Anyone know how water proof garmins are? Is it best to keep them in the jersey if its hammering it down?

Garmins are fine in the rain, I wouldn't go swimming down in Brighton with them though.

I have ridden with them on many rain soaked Surrey rides and 8.5 hours in a sportive in France/Spain of which 6 hours were in heavy rain and it came through unscathed.

As a caveat, this is my experience, so will let you make your decision as to what you want to do with yours tomorrow.

I'll be there as well with my waterproof and train fare home just in case it gets too wet. Hopefully the sun will come out when we get to the beach 8)

Hopefully this will be checked within the next 2 hours, with regret im withdrawing. Best of luck on the weather to everyone who takes it on.
  • What an excellent ride. Yeah, I got soaked four of times but those were all on the way back. Afraid those of you who couldn't make it missed out a fantastic and moderately epic ride. Photos to follow.

Steve, James, Nick: hope you enjoyed it as much as I don't feel too stiff or sore tomorrow. Particularly the knee James. Good to have you all along especially Nick for your first RPCC - hope to see you out again soon.

Berns: good to se you out. As you sawed fixed James' bike. The descent fro Coldharbour looked sketchy as we climbed so hope it didn't cause any problems.

I'm knackered but had a great time - my first 100 mile+ ride!

Great to meet you all and I'll definitely be out with you again soon. Sorry for the rather abrupt departure - I wasn't totally sure which was the right way back to Esher.

    Cheers chaps

Really enjoyed the ride yesterday despite a couple of thorough soakings on the way back. Managed to get caught in a downpour on the way back from RP as well. Kit washed and drying, just got to give the bike a good clean up today.

    Stats from yesterday http://connect.garmin.com/activity/44490570
The elevation looks a bit iffy.
  • Some photos from yesterday...

  • Really impressed you stuck with it and went out despite the awful forecast.

I really hope to join on one of these soon.

Good effort chaps - sorry I didn't make it out. I feel ashamed...

Is it time to start planning a ride of the falling leaves?
  • Dave - quite possibly. Could try and end up at Look Mum No Hands to watch the actual race. 16 October is the date I believe...

Now that is a good shout - been thinking about checking that place out for a while...

    Two potential problems:

It might be a bit late (Italy is a bit different to us weather-wise) :-)

Do these new fangled cycling cafes sell good old-fashioned ale, or is it all power juices and energy gels?
  • I am committed to riding through the winter this year :?

So gotta get out in October.

And yes they do serve a variety of ales. According to their website:
Slag Pils (We chose it because of the name but it tastes great) Veddet Extra Blonde Vedett White Moritz Rothaus Zaffle Frulli Bath Ales Barnstormer Bath Ales Gem Bath Ales Dark Hare Aspall's Suffolk Cider

Works well with me. LMNH is about 5 mins from my place :) If we are going there, suggest we get there early, so probably the hoonfest route? I have been there a few times. On the final stage of the Tour it was standing room only pretty much after 2.30, but probably with the autumn classics it maybe fine.
  • Thread up for this weekend's ride and planning session for a falling leaves run!
