Training without a computer

For the last year or so I've been training using a GPS and heart rate monitor. Pretty much became a slave to them. Today, for a change, I thought I'd do my usual 16 mile training TT with the GPS and HRM covered up and trying to pace myself just on how I felt, rather than what the computers were telling me.
The result? Fastest ever time.
I don't know why, but I think it may be that, rather than chasing a target, I just rode as hard as I could. I'm going to add a weekly ride without computers into my weekly training schedule from now on.

I took my bike computer off my bike recently (it wasn't working properly) and I've been seeing the same thing on solo rides. I'm riding at what feels like a decent tempo with no idea of the actual speed and today did my fastest ever time over a rolling 65kms. I may not put the computer back on - but I will use my HRM some more as it's been mostly sitting in a cupboard too.My cycling blog: http://girodilento.com/0
