Will we see "The Dauphine Effect" this year?

Any channels covering this on the interweb ?.I used this one for the Giro http://videochat.gazzetta.it/index_giro.shtml and it was great seeing the race live even on a tiny 'screen' with excitable Italian commentators :)
  • Iain, I don't understand what you mean so I don't know if we will see it or not. :?

"The Dauphine Effect" is when people who you'd expect to challenge for the Tour suddenly can't climb or appear to be performing well below the level you'd expect.

It may or may not have something to do with how much blood they're missing from their systems.

You mean when they go hard right up until the TT or the first mountain finish and then, overnight, suddenly they ride like a sack of spanners?

    Fixed that for you.

Exactly, if it's "refill time" in the Tour on the eve of a big stage, it's been common for riders to make a deposit in Banco Fuentes or other rival institutions in the Dauphiné.

See Landis in the 2005 Dauphine, and others too.

Very strong TT riding one day: http://autobus.cyclingnews.com/road/200 ... elibere063

Bag of spanners on the first mountain the next day: http://autobus.cyclingnews.com/road/200 ... elibere064
Not everyone rode that way up Mont Ventoux, obviously. Alexandre Vinokourov, Floyd Landis and George Hincapie looked like they were not trying their best, probably afraid of burning themselves instead of doing solid work in their lead up to the Tour de France. "I think they're coming all off a big break from racing," Leipheimer noticed. "At a point, they weren't pushing as hard as they could, that's what I think."
    That's what Levi thought.

Garmin doing frantic work in the bunch to close the now 4 minute gap - Why?? Tommy D's classement? Kreder doing something in a narrowed down group sprint?

Tommy D is doing Suisse instead of Dauphine to allow him to recover from the accidenth e had before Cali.

Thanks for that. Right, so what than? I understand Millar fancies his GC chances, but to be honest, with this route including Alpe d'H, it seems beyond optimistic to start leading the bunch at this stage, if it's not about the stage win...

    Definitely for Dave's GC chances.

    Yes, it's bonkers.

Did anyone just hear Kirby say that riders can request what they want food wise from the car and he saw a rider actually ask for a can of coke , bit of a treat he reckons

For not strangling Kirby live on air.

If he did, he'd deserve much more than a medal.

Backstedt could probably do it one-handed, he's a big lad and Kirby's high pitch whine suggests a pencil neck.

Kirby is getting a lot of hate on a lot of cycling forums.
Maggie has the patience of a saint.

Info from the crash is non-existent.

He closed the door a bit too sharply at the line. Disqualification offence?

Paul Martens fell over a wall on the way down but he's ok. A bit like Ten Dam last July. Sam Dumoulin crashed on the way down too.

    Velits second. EBH third.

I reckon HTC will lodge a complaint. Bole moved way off his line and closed the door on Velits.
