Has anyone ridden any of the climbs to El Teide , Tenerife ? How long did it take you and which route did you climb, average speed etc ?

if it's any help - I've ridden up it on a motorcycle...
Not sure where your start point might be, but we went from Los Christianos, up TF82, then TF38 to the top - then back down on TF21 & 51.
The ascent up 82 is relatively steady and the descent down 21 from the top was spectacular, but either way you are looking at about 7000ft + of climbing in about 35-40 miles...0 -
Ive not been all the way up to the very to (to the volcanic park bit) but ive done the route from los cristianos-arona-vilaflor thats only about 25km but its all uphill (and quite tough and steep too) the way back down I did granadilla de abona-san miguel-playa de las americas.
Ive also done the route in reverse too.
I went in february and the weather was great (shorts and short sleeves) but up the top of teide it is very cold. I bumped into franco pelizotti and another liquigas rider (didnt catch his name as his english and my italian wasnt up to scratch) and they went all the way to the top but had a car meeting them at vilaflor (where I turned off) with more clothes and food.
Tenerife has some good rides but imho gran canaria is better.
If you go into the centre of the island (teide) it is just a big long climb (or descent) from all directions. the coastal roads are quite good.
A good ride is to head west along the coast from los cristianos to guia de isora and icod de las vinos. its a bit more rolling.
masca is supposed to be a challange too (25%)0 -

Not got time to type now - but have a look at what I said at http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12684786 (last entry I think). Teide is good but a bit of a slog (I didn't have time for the last 3km!). I thought the Masca loop was more "fun" :shock:0
