Temptation time. If you could upgrade one part on your bike for free, what would it be?
Probably XTR chainset for me. Would've bought it in the first place but its silly silly money for what it is.
Do look nice though..

I'd have some Revalation 2011 World Cups.0
-
the whole bike
probably wheels - easton havens or i9's 8)0 -
Wheels to Cranky Iodine0
-
-
Wolf Ridge - Fox Vanilla Forks or possibly i9 enduro wheels (in orange of course)
IFT - A Santa Cruz blur XC carbon frame.Santa Cruz Chameleon
Orange Alpine 1600 -
I would be torn between upgrading from the standard V-brakes it came with to disc brakes or replacing the pogo stick on the front.0
-
Some new wheels: Innolite XCC250 rims on Tune Dezibel/Princess hubs, probably with Revolutions, maybe Pillar Ti spokes.
Mmmm... free 1000g disc wheels.0 -
Possibly wheels, mine are starting to look like they've seen better days. Maybe 355s on xtr.
Or the forks. A top of the line SID would do nicely.
Or the frame, the cotic soda looks absolutely gorgeous, and as it's free...Rock Lobster 853, Trek 1200 and a very old, tired and loved Apollo Javelin.0 -
I would probably go for some 2011 Fox Float 140 RLC's - 15QR's.. I'm loving those gold stanchions!0
-
race face anodised AM crank set.
mmmmm.... bootylicious0 -

Going back to the OP, they're quite reasonable from Merlin really! Particularly if you then sell the rings and use a 2x9, as you do. IIRC I got £140 for the rings I sold.0 -
Frame. Something slacker and suitable for a longer travel fork.... when I get my next free upgrade0
-
The rider always seems the weakest link on my bike0

whole bike probably, but if it was just one thing, would be wheels- superstar superlegara/switch with Mavic EN 521's0
-
Superstar hubs? Some people have some pretty lowly 'wants' :-)0
-
They are tough and work well - why not?0
-
Pretty happy with my bike as it stands. Fancy complementing it with an mmmbop though.0

It's just a bit like being told 'you can have any car you want in the world, for free' and saying 'hmmm... I'll have a 1.4l Fiesta please'.
As the first word of the thread was 'temptation', opting for something like that seemed a little dull, that's all.0 -
Lol, they may work better than CK hehe.0
-
From my experience with CK I'd second that!
And actually, despite my saying I'd have Tune hubs, my Kong Superscharf wasn't a particularly impressive bit of kit! 'Non-user serviceable hubs' great idea that one...
Still, if they were free!0 -
250g rims though, fark.0
-
Yep! There's some chap on Weight Weenies with a set built up on some Extralite hubs, they're 960g for the pair IIRC. He's no flyweight either!0
-
The hubs are just mental, I saw that roadie one which is basically a carbon tube and a bearing, weighs 38g or summat daft like that lol.0
-
This one? Slightly crazy.0 -
That's the fella!0
-
There's an article somewhere about some Lew Racing wheels that the chappy got down to around 700g, admittedly road tubs, but even so. He milled the freehub body and all sorts. Imagine it folded up under anything more than 50W!0
-
Only so far you can go before it gets daft. I remember in the 90s the obsession with drilling holes in things.0
-
Lighter frame by far as everything else on it can then be upgraded as there not as expensive to. Only other really expensive part obviously the fork.0
