Home made drinks.

Got any suggestions for home brewed drinks? Something for the ride maybe but especially for rehydration. I spend my life dry despite pushing water through like an HE plant. Admittedly its warm but I drank 14 pints of water yesterday and am still dehydated.
Commercial ones are just too pricey for the amount I want to use.
PS I cannot stand fruit flavours

How are you deciding you're dehydrated, and rehydration is all about water really... it's very unlikely that with a "normal" diet you will be in any way short on salts.

Deciding that i am dehydrated as i am desperately thirsty, usually a sign that its too late, and headachy. Normal dehy signs really. Just wondering if anything aids rehydration rather than the 6 pints of water drunk since my last post.

I would go chat to your GP, you shouldn't be getting dehydrated if you simply drink to thirst.

So you're saying you've consumed 6 pints of water in the last 2 hours? Is it possible you have diabetes?

Or do you live under a bridge and scare goats?

2- See a doctor soon, anything above 4lts of water a day is dangerous and can/will kill. Unless you work in a foundry or manually bring the harvest in the hot sun witha jumper on.

I have recently written a little bit on what to drink when I'm doing long rides. It's on my blog

Doc says i just need to drink a lot. Must admit I pee an awful lot as well. As its clear I reckon enough is going throufgh, just seems to take a long time to get back up to comfort. Perhaps I'm just getting old.

How old are you and can you see another doctor? 14 pints daily is going some, you may even be at risk of overdiluting your blood producing hyponatraemia and erm serious problems thereafter

If you haven't got a headwind you're not trying hard enough

human kidneys can process up to fifteen litres a day, as long as it is not an excessive amount at once.

I drink at least 4 litres a day and up to double that depending on the training/hard liquor being done/consumed.

And I never get ill. Ever.

I think water is great. But maybe for some people that much is no good?

I am not a giant guy either. 5'9

the homemade (it takes 1 min to make) 60-80g sugar 1/2 tsp salt 1 litre water + cordial is a fantastic post ride (decent ride) drink. you are wasting your money if you buy all that powdered stuff and pre made powerade gatorade is even worse (value wise)

Sounds like a lot to me. I would get it checked by a doctor. constant thirst and urination is a symptom of diabetes and drinking so much can dilute your blood salts so much as to cause serious health problems - as others have already said.
Just drinking lots of water quickly will mean you pee out most of it before your body gets a chance to 'use' it. Try sipping significantly less and including some lemon juice/honey or other small quantities of food to slow down clearance from guts? But most importantly speak to your doc! If he says you must drink a lot - ask him to expalin why and what and when....
