smooth roads near newcastle???

Hi,
I just got a new TT bike and am fairly loath to take it with the disc wheel on some of the rough roads around newcastle. Currently I just try to put in a best time between Ponteland and Matfen as the road surface is good but this same route is becoming boring.
So does anyone out there know of any good TT practise routes around Newcastle??
