Good luck mate, sounds like has been caught at a very early stage and that you have an excellent prognosis. I have been in remission from testicular cancer for 5 years now, so I understand how you feel, chemo is rotten and as you know you just have to rest up and take it as easy as you can.
Also, as an aside, check if you have a mortgage, if you have critical insurance cover against it, if you do then you may get a payout against your mortgage. My cancer nurse gave me this advice, just wanted to pass it along.
Stay well mate, you will look back in a years time and feel so much better.

    Regards

    Davey.

Good luck old bean. I'm sure you'll gain strength from all the support there is for you on here. So chin up and conquer the little blighter. England expects and all that....

Cheers all, wouldn't say a hard b£gg@r but what do you do eh? I woke at four this morning with all the waterworks running from my eyes... Soft as I reckon.

That's a good point re the mortgage, I have to admit I was on it already but your prompting will push me to sort it asap. From your experience re this, you say a payout... Is this nomally a (no pun intended) lump sum of cashback or does it clear down part or all of your mortgage with critical illness cover.

Mine was for the full amount, but for our old house. See, because we moved we did not up the premium but kept the policy, so I got £80,000 paid out. If we had updated the policy when moving we would have got £128000, but I am not complaining. get on this ASAP because there are time limits from the date of diagnosis. Good luck with everything.

Right I need a letter from the consultant re this I now understand... I will try to get something sorted Monday. I must say most of the time you take out this type of cover/ insurance you think 'yeah right' I am just paying for nowt but when it comes to it it makes such sense...

Thanks for your help. What sort of time limits do you mean, days, weeks? I'm sure there will be something in my policy.

Markmod, you have my best wishes!

Re: the internet being scary - we can access all sorts of information, but we don't necessarily have the knowledge or experience to apply it to our own situation in a balanced way. It is good to keep informed because you can make better decisions, but we need to filter out the alarmist stuff. I am sure you will have a consultant that can put things in perspective.

You are spot on Alfablue... My consultant said every case is different, and don't be overwhelmed by information from all sides he said... And to think I went looking for it!

The advice and support I have been given on this thread has been superb, nothing prescriptive, all postive and very very helpful indeed. You know we are from all walks of life here, both young and old, ok so we are bound by a love or interest of cycling, but it's really great that we can help each other (or me and other readers with this damn illness) so much.

I have a tip for any other readers who may find this thread through search engines etc, I found out today if you have been diagnosed with Cancer your prescriptions are free (after filling in a form) this even for the current painkillers I am on will be a godsend,( for example over the counter £4.99 for a pack of 500 mg soluble paracetemol!) trust me it's expensive being I'll and I am not just talking about the cycle mags I am buying to read most of the day (missing my Eurosport afternoons at the Giro big time now)

Apperently this has changed in the last six months.

I think it is 3 months maybe or it could be 6 months but it definitely is a longer period than days or weeks. Speak to your insurers and consultant or relevant cancer nurse and get the ball running. As previous posters have said, don't frighten yourself by digging too deep on the net. Cancer research UK is a good, balanced resource and will give you most of the info you will need, stay away from US sites they are full of miracle diets, trials and different treatment schedules as they are all independent. Good luck mate, let us know how you go.

Cheers dmclite, very good info. Yes I have knocked the web research on the head now. Lesson learned!

I have dropped an email from the contact form on the livestrong website too... Sounds supportive. I will also refer to the cancer uk website... Support and answers to the many, many questions I have are the things that will be a help.

    Thanks again my friend.

Thanks ratsbeyfus.. (interesting username!) appreciated indeed.

Feeling a little better today, After a good nights sleep, tonsillectomy is also now calming down more and more, MRI scan appointment for coming Monday was confirmed on the telephone yesterday too, which could have been put back to the Monday after due to the bank holiday catch up from this week, so that is good!

The sun is shining, I may have a sit in the garden soon.

And it's Comic day- cycling weekly is here, so all in all a better day!
