Is the software easy enough to set up once you have the virtual machine and linux installed? I've set up VMs at work and it wasn't that much of a headache, but if the Quarqd stuff requires a degree in computer science to set up then I'll be stuffed.

nah quarqd just runs, as long as you've installed the USB driver under windows (not the garmin one, the one linked in the quarqd conf.) then it's pretty trivial.

When you say cheap - how cheap?

Maybe you could hire it out to folk like me and hopper1 that just want one for a couple of days to check our Garmins

Well, I won my ebay auction for a ANT+ USB stick, it should arrive BNIB.. Along with the Forerunner 50 and HR strap...
Sometimes, I just can't help myself!
Save me taking the 705 offshore, where I don't need GPS, or power readings.

Tghe number that you see when 'calibrating' the 705 is always the same... Some sort of serial number, or something.
To do a 'proper' calibration, you'd need either the LYC, or an ANT+ USB stick for your Garmin unit to talk to.
Read back through all this thread...

I managed to get a USB stick, just not had time to use it yet...

It means your PowerTap has the ANT ID of 64645 (or so) which is just the identifier that it has so you get your power data and not the riders next to you. It'll always be the same, unless you pair to a different powertap, it's just the device you're talking to.
