6 hrs 17 for me. I was pretty pleased with that, as only my second ever century.

Got caught in a very heavy shower up to Horsey, which put a dampener on things for a while. That slowed us down a bit. We actually found the last 10 miles the worst, cycling as hard as we could to make up for lost time and get close to 6 hrs as possible.

Hoping for 6 hrs next year.

Wow, thats some impressive times, I spent the first 25 miles overtaking loads of people, which I assume were doing the 100 route and therefore pacing it out, the second 25 was a relatively solitary affair, untill I latched onto a group of 4 at Aylsham and we rode together till the finish.
I was really suprised at how many people had punctures, I lost count, I really didn't appreciate just how many get them
I am doing the flatout in the fens in a few weeks, 73miles, so hopefully that will help me on my way to my first 100.

I know what you mean about the punctures. I think a lot of it is you seldom see so many cyclists in one place, so if the puncture rate is no more than average, you'll still see a lot of people with puctures. Also the roads out that way aren't particularly great in places with lots of stones and gravel. Luckily I got round unscathed this year.

Managed the '100' in 5hr 33 mins. So well chuffed with that as target was to crack 6 hrs. Didn't see any rain until sinking a couple of pints at the finish. :D

There was an accident just before the gas terminal at Bacton, the guy was sat up wrapped in Hypothermia blanket and looked to have some blood on his face - if you read this mate I hope you recover soon.

Great ride today although made a mistake and rode with our fast group for the first 55 miles which helped me with and average of 19.5mph for the first bit but I had to split away and ride in with one other rider. Still finished in 5h44m which was our target to do under 5.45.

Saw the aftermath of the accident at Bacton, very nasty it looked to, the rider was clearly in shock and had a bandage over what looked to be a bad head wound. The paramedics were looking after him when I went passed.

Some good riding and some shocking stuff as well. We had one guy who thought he could overtake our group of twelve riders who had wound up to 23mph only to find out he was fast because he had been drafting us for miles. He was then starnded on the wrong side of the road with a car bearing down on him. Other chaps not able to ride in a basic straight line. In general though it was pretty good.

  • Completed the 50 in 3.15, which I was quite pleased with for the following reasons:
    1. My 1st ever sportive.
    2. Apart from a few miles on the homeward run I was riding solo.
    3. I only re-took up cycling a month ago after 23 years :D

Second time we have done the Norwich 100. Last year just got in in 6 hours but the weather was horrendous. We are from Worcester but stayed in Lowestoft over night. Totally underestimated how long it would take us to get there, get our kit on and get to the start. Missed our start time by 1/2 an hour. Our group of three had two punctures.

This years event was far better. Got to the start at 7.05 and off on time. Never got wet until 30 miles from Norwich and dried before the end. We were in Pink Giro shirts and finish in 5.31 even though one of our group of three was feeling sick for last 20 mile. Never try new energy shot blocks on a ride. Had one puncture between us. Can't believe there were so many punctures in the first 10mile. Why is this?

Liked the extra stuff at the end. Beer , medals and a band. Made the day. Thanks to our group. Great ride lads. 5 hours 15 next year I'm sure. Hello to all the people we met.

5:14 for me, very pleased as was aiming for 5:30 and have only been riding again for 3 and a bit months.

Next year though, nothing more than 5hours, maybe a good 4:30 with a group? :)

Crikey, great effort to come all the way over from Worcester

Some of the roads exiting from the Cathedral area of the city were a bit rough and I wonder if that caused a few slow punctures to some of the softer/thinner tyres? The exposed flintstones within the Cathedral grounds caused a few swear words from a lot of riders on the way out at the start as well.

Had a good day and finished the 100 with my wife in 5:41.

    My thoughts on the day:

There were some inconsiderate riders in 'fast groups' who seemed to think they owned the road and would happily disrupt other groups. I can understand their desire to get a fast time, but there's no need to clatter into my group when you're trying to sort out your group's admin.

Lots of punctures, thought I only suffered 1.

    Good organisation and signage.

My wife ran out of energy after 65 miles requiring a stop. She had a Zipvit ZV7 gel and then rode like a demon for the last 35 miles. I don't know what they put in those gels, but I've just bought a whole box!

Not convinced about the need for a 'compulsory' stop, which then wasn't policed.

I had one of those Zipfit gels(left over from the Suffolk Sunrise) and it certainly hit the mark. I don't think the UCI would be too happy with them given the effect they have! Don't spill any of the contents anywhere though, I got some on my hand and i couldn't get rid of the stickyness for hours.

The compulsory stop was ridiculous, one person cheching in and out and the queue blocking the entrance to the building. We didn't bother getting our cards done, after all we knew what our times were from our computers. I think it would have been better to check riders in at the gate and then check them out in the allyway on the way out.

Yes we were. You had a yellow Carrera. Did you get the saddle back back?
  • Good ride all in all. Managed to get round in 5:31, quickest yet and not bad considering I've on ridden 380km this year.

Rode the final 40+ KM with a chap called Charlie (I think), if your out there PM me.

I did get it. Turns out It was still on the back of my other bike when I got home so, as you can imagine, I feel like a bit of a prat now
Just lucky I dodnt get a flat I guess otherwise I would have been stuck!

I did 6:23 which isn't bad. I've done it three times now 5:45 the first time (having never ridden more than 50miles, ridding far too fast on the first 50 and massivly hitting the wall at 85miles....) then two years ago I did 5:03. This time I went out for myself, just to enjoy the ride. I was on a Ti framed singlespeed bike, with paint splatter mudguards. It was nice to roll round nice and gentley.
Well done to all those who completed the 100miles. Also, well done to the beautiful woman I met in streetlife and rode with for a few miles after the 50mile stop. I'm impressed that you continued, if you read this let me know how you did.

p.s. I've done several century rides but always in sportives. Decided I needed to do a century on my own, so went out sunday (12/06) and did 113miles on my own. Very hard, but in a way more satisfiying.
p.p.s. Ride time was about 7 1/2hours with a fair bit of climbing. I'm happy, but plan to improve. I always struggle around the 70mile mark....
