    Problem at Arsenal is finance.

Board are hell bent on balancing the books and with a new stadium it hasn't helped things.

30 mil for Cesc is good business,.

Look on the brightside at least you aren't in debt as Liverpool and Manure Utd.

And DDD what has Wenger won in the last 5 years???

I think it`s Arsenal that are more likely to go into decline than Spurs. It`s a changing of the guard.

I worried when they said that in 1978 after Villa and Ardiles turned up.

I worried when they said that in 1991 when Gazza turned up.

Worried now that 'arry 'as turned up? Probably not.

It's rarely successful though... Arsenal might not bang 4 past em but they invariably come away with 3pts.

United and Chelsea have employed the most successful tactics; playing on the break and taking advantage of the frequency that Arsenal get to the opposition's box [almost en masse] without delivering. Wenger needs to engineer more caution into his team's approach if he wants to win anything next season.

Good point. The only team that totally overwhelmed us technically this season was Barca. Chelseeya and Moan Utd beat us by good tactics (as above). The other defeats were mostly about passion (and the lack of it at Arsenal sometimes).

Whether Cesc goes or not, I'm old enough to remember standing on the North Bank during the Don Howe era watching the likes of Willie Young, Peter Marinello and Lord knows who else huff and puff about the place missing tackles and thumping the ball into the stands.

By comparison with that and any other era, the current Arsenal set up is simply breathtaking.

I agree with all of that, but Wenger has set his own standards. And now the club is behind them IMO.

I think you have forgotten Everton on that list, totally outplayed the Arse at the Emirates, even Wenger admitted as much.

Marinello in the Don Howe era ? Out by 15 years, credibility shot to pieces.

Reminds me of that brilliant Fast Show sketch - 'aint soccer great' .Also about 'up the Ars*'
    Was that you ?

Anyway, the real story of the summer, will Andy Carroll get sent down ?

If you are telling me that watching the likes of Bendtner and Eboue every week is a positive outcome from the new stadium then I put it to you that it isnt me who doesnt know what he is talking about

    ^^Classic spoiled Arsenal fan^^

OK lets put some perspective on this. The Arsenal team that went 49 games undefeated was an exceptional team, not just in Premiership, European or World football terms, we are talking all time greats. A number of that team will go down in history as some of the greatest players (in the World, in the Premiership and for Arsenal) of all time.

Since then the team Arsene has developed has never finished outside fourth place in one of the most competitive footballing leagues in the World. Clubs have gone bankrupt trying, others have spent £100millions and many have spent more than Wenger has ever done on a single player and still cannot successfully dislodge Arsenal's 'failures' (as you would call them) from their Champions League spot. So yeah, while we bash and complain about our players lets do so with perspective; they aren't that bad, they're just not the best players we've ever had ever.

Lastly on the subject of breaking that team apart, if they still were all playing for Arsenal the youngest, two defenders, would be 29.
The fact that when season tickets are up for renewal Wenger says he will strengthen and then doesnt is about as cynical as football gets (and it gets bloody cynical).

This is true of any club; he has already bought in one player, he has never steered us wrong, we are in the Champions league next season and the club's finances are still healthy. Would you rather us be Liverpool? Or Man City?

fair enough, it is a forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I am certainly no spoilt Arsenal fan, I was there in the 80's. I just think the last few seasons have been a missed opportunity where a small amount of investment would have brought in players better than some of those already there and could have bought a trophy.

You aint gonna change my mind, just as I aint gonna change yours.

No, since the midfield duo days of Petit and Veira I have of believed Arsenal needed one more a defender, midfielder and striker. This belief has since been compounded by the clear growing need for a goal keeper. Right now, assuming we keep Gallas we need another central defender, another midfielder (not attacking) and another striker (along with the one we've just bought).

However, I don't think Wenger will ever been seen as the man that broke up THAT team and I don't think the current stock is that bad. This season they ran out of legs in a League where, with the exception of Real Madrid, spent the largest amount of money in the World to simply get into the top 4, let alone win the Premiership.

Why he had to go I don't know, he wouldn't say
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday

Yesterday, Spurs was such an easy game to play
We beat them both home and away
    oh, I believe in yesterday

Spurs will get plundered this close season too...... although to their benefit. Keane will go, so will Jenas. Modric will be sold if the right offer comes in too.

I can see Arsenal having a huge rebuild with a couple of centre backs, a couple of midfielders (inc a holding one) and a goalkeeper amongst the new signings

Who is the striker they've signed?

I went on the Emirates tour on sunday and took the chance in the changing room to get my picture taken with Cesc's shirt. By the look of the negotiations going on today that opportunity might not be around for much longer (like he himself).

I got to sit in Arsene's seat in the dugout as well and he's right, you can't see fek all from there ;-)

Looks like the answers no. Goonars just rejected a 29m pound bid for him.

Looks like the answer is "thats not enough". Taking the Spurs Ar5e thing out of it for a moment, if a player wants to go, let him go. You just have to try and get as much as you can, look at Berbatov, I thought at the time that once he had said he wanted to leave that if we got the right money that I would have driven him there. If you dont want to be here anymore then get the feck out.

    Opening exchange though?

Interesting wording in the statement from Arsenal.
To be clear, we will not make any kind of counterproposal or enter into any discussion. Barcelona have publicly stated that they will respect our position and we expect that they will keep their word.

They are clearly trying to use the statement to highlight what they see as under hand practices by the Catalans.

If they up their offer, they might yet sell.

Vieira and Heny had dubious seasons when they missed out on moves the previous summer.

I hope he stays and Wenger brings in the players around Cesc that can recover Arsenal's position as a challenger.

So according to Wenger, Fabregas is going no-where and we look to be first choice for Joe Cole, things are looking up for the Arsenal next season. Just need another centre back tto replace Gallas and a defensive midfielder to cover Song
