10mile TT times for beginners?

I did one late last year and managed 31:51. This was a signed on club trial. Last night I went out and did the route myself for the first time since doing the club 10 and managed 28:20. I think I would have probably gone faster if it was an official event. My bike is a standard Trek 1.2 Compact. The 28:20 time was using the Planet X Model B's with 700x25 tyres. These wheels do make a big difference. I may do an official club 10 and change the tyres to 23 and see if I can get under the 28m mark. My goal for this year was to do under 30m in a time trial. First time out and I bloody do it!!! Have to change that goal to under 27m now0

Did my first one tonight on a local course:
- 1 right hand turn at a mini-roundabout.
- 4 roundabouts and 1 traffic light.
- 104ft of climbing - so fairly flat.
The time: 28:54
20.76mph average - 30.1mph (WTF?) on the flats in the final straight.
14mph headwinds at some points.
Tyres at about 70-80 PSI
I'm very impressed given the conditions and that I started riding in February and only have about 800 miles under my belt in that time. I don't use the drop bars nowhere near enough either. I find I'm on the hoods, though I tried to 'aero' myself as much as I could.
I reckon on a less windy day and with my tyres inflated I could hit sub-28. It's a fun experience though! I can see this becoming addictive.0 -
Hi Furrag
Not being funny but how can you do a TT with a traffic light in it? Surly this would sometimes mess you up....

My thought, too... :?Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0 -
It's the most convenient course I've mapped up. It was only to get a base time of what I can do 10 miles in. I'm sure I'll cop the arse and map another route when I have to stop for the light.
I suppose I could always start the time trial just after the lights given the course is 10.21 miles.0 -
I did 25min for my first 10 on a single 76inch fixed on 27x1 1/4 tyres trouble is that was when I was 14 34 years ago. Times for beginners seem to be slower these days than back then perhaps it's down to people not doing club runs so much anymore.0

That would be very impressive for an experienced racer these days. Did you turn pro/race at Elite level?0 -

Unfortunately not, one of the things you need as well as natural physical ability is the mental strength to train hard which unfortunately I lacked.0
