    Good call on La Trappe.
    France - Pelforth blonde. They sponsored a cycling team back in the 60's I think.

    YES, it's the best lager there is, excellent recommendation.

    England, there are many many great ales Doom bar or Tribute are certainly worth mentioning

    Please for sake of all that is holy don't drink associate Bud with the US
    Not sure what options you can find Sam Adams Boston Lager or Sierra Nevada Pale Ale would be good bets.

    Speights is OK. Better drops would be:

    Mac's Gold (avaible at Waitrosse)
    Monteiths New Zealand Lager (seriously good!)
    Steinlager Pure (NOT the original Steinlager - this stuff is called Steingrenades for a reason!!)

    For the US - drop the Bud and go for Sam Adams. Not quite as All Americana as Bud might be, but it's made in Boston and is a much better beer.
