So that 56 rider split was pretty meaningless after all...

Vino goes out the back door.

Have you not seen the route for next week?

Not sure about Wiggy's more there? Far too far to ride from the summit even if he could have stayed away. Wouldn't be suprised to see Richie Porte get back on by the finish, depending in how many team mates his has around him.

Don't get me wrong, love to see attacking racing, just not sure it's a wise move for Wiggy with what's to come next week. Maybe he knows he's not got much of a chance next week and thought a dig at the stage win might have been worth a go?

I certainly have - mine was tongue in cheek.

Next Saturday's stage - over 6000 vertical metres of climbing. Should be a ripper!

Sastre and Vino riding back up to them. Half expected Sastre to do that.

He might get back on before the finish, but from tomorrow onwards, it will be game on!

They all look like they are hurting, none of them flying up.

Didn't expect this, thought they would just roll over the summit in a big group. Another cracking Giro stage. Question is, who is going to get back on the descent. Satre and Vino, but who else?

The Cunego / Wiggins group is not that far behind. But still 4km of the climb to go.

Basso looks really good. Good to see him taking the initiative.

Light rain there too, spots on the camera and you can see people with umbrellas. Could make the descent "interesting"

This little rain shower could make the descent interesting if it gets a bit harder

Good work. Those who want to win have to commit to long range attacks every day in order to gain back the time needed. Risks have to be taken.

But the descent is long and relatively easy, it should allow a group that works well (big if) to pull back time.

I suspect that Bradders was always going to blow.. but he should have kept his powder dry a big longer and he may not have detonated so badly ...

So that was the easy climb of the week!
Nibali versus Vino on the decent, or will the younger rider have to wait for Basso?
    Bye bye Riche..........

Sunny, raining, looks very changeable. What you need are some sort of eyewear that can adapt to changing light conditions. Maybe even give protection to harmful UV rays 8)

Probably from Croatia. It's the Mediterranean, the way it used to be.

Can you complete this by saying he looked rubbish on the climb?

To be fair... Sastre looked like 2005 vintage Basso coming down. Intendo looked pretty good.
