Simple enough:
New best bike has 10mm more saddle - bar drop (now 80mm)than previous, all the other dimensions the same. Me = 171cm, av proportions.
Not sure whether it's irritating my back or whether I'm imagining it :roll:
Would I really notice the difference :?:

what do you mean by saddle has 10mm more, in what direction? up, forwards, back? What is bar drop, measurement taken from which two points? In any case lowering your bars by 80mm if that's what you have done in one go is going to completely change your position, so no wonder your back hurts. Never change one contact point by more than 5mm in one go otherwise you'll potentially get in a mess0

12% change in measurements - sounds like quite a bit to get used to - SteveRs recomendation of 5mm at a time & one thing at a time is a pretty sound idea in my book, otherwise youve suddenly altered your ride position greatly and dont know what caused teh new issue- too high/set back saddle, too low bars, too long reach.....0

What I meant was, I have gone from 70mm saddle-bar drop (measured from saddle top level to bar tops) to 80mm.

So, in effect, you've lowered your bars 10mm, yes?
That's not an excessive amount to drop... I made the same adjustment myself, last year, 10mm per week, for three weeks.
It's not a big transition, but it will still take a little time to get used to it, as you are now stretching further.
As long as it doesn't get too painful, I'd give it a week, or so, then review how you feel...Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0
