Ok, so following glentress the other week, i decided i needed a larger frame. Posted the scott frame off to it's new owner this morning, and look what arrives for me in the post a couple of hours later! (took a bloody week to get it off UPS)

Can ya guess what it is yet?

p4pb5074905.jpg

Yep! It's a commie meta 5!

p4pb5074891.jpg

The paint is pretty tatty as someone has attempted their own paintjob so i got it for what i consider to be a decent price (less than i sold my scott for). All the paint will be coming off today and tomorrow afternoon anyway and i'm going to take it back to raw alu, i may keep it like that, i may get a new paintjob done, i'm not decided yet. It depends how it looks. I'll post some more pics as it progresses.

Also, i wasn't expecting these to come today, but since they did, here are some pics!

Careful with the raw ally look. It'll need a lacquer of some sort.
My brother "polished" his old GSXR once, "oh wow, look, it's shiny!" But the morning it had turned white with oxidisation

Cheers DMC, thought i sorted that!

And yeah, i may tape off the BB and headset and give it a quick laquer, shouldn't be too hard i think...

before applying dacals and laquer, give it a quick polish with some fine wire wool, shouls just enshure it looks its best before you lock it into looking that way for ever.

BTW, it looks amazing, absolutely love the whole red black and polished look. very sweet.

Rear end stripped and polished, ready for laquer. I won't get a chance to do anything else for a week now though at least, so don't expect any updates for a while!

Apologies for the crap photo, i'll take some decent pictures with my decent camera when it's all finished etc

Spent the weekend laquering the frame, got the frame bearings changed yesterday at the LBS, spent today reassebling and building the bike up. It's now fully built, all i have to do is sort out the chain guide and index the gears and it's ready to go. Unfortunately i didn't have time for any fully built pics but i did take this one.

Thanks! :D Wait until you see the full build!
I chipped the laquer in a few places around the pivots due to general ham-fistedness, but luckily you can't tell from the photo ;)

It was a GSXR, it was going to happen sooner or later, that's Legendary Suzuki Build Quality.

  • That looks fantastic. I wanted to strip my Orange 5 and leave it 'au naturel'.
Orange advised me that it would look crap as it had already been painted, but now you've got me thinking again.

What did you use to strip the paint?

Wickes own brand paint stripper, a scraper, then sandpaper and varying grades of wire wool to finish it. (tried wilkos own brand paint stripper, it was crap, wickes is much better).

So it's finally finished! Just had to sort out the chain guide and index the gears today. Already taken it for a local ride, and loving it so far! The rear end just feels so much more controlled than on the scott and is much more pedallable, particularly out of the seat. Still need to sort out some minor cockpit niggles though.

    so, photos and speclist:
