Croatia.0 -
The Canaries, Gran Canaria.
Great beaches, Huge mountains inland.
Cheapish food, drink.
Lovely locals.
Depends on the Volcanoe!!!0 -
Maybe do some research into the Cape Verde islands..Best time to go etc..Dont know how commercial its become though..jc0
-
La Palma (not Las Palmas). Definitely not too commercialised, hire a car and explore, lots of hidden beaches, friendly locals (you'll need to speak a little Spanish though). Take a trip up to the observatories on Roque de los Muchachos - very impressive.
I'm off to Cape Verde in June, so can report back!0 -

Went for my honeymoon there.
Go to the restaurants on the side of the cliff in Thira watching the sunset very very romantic.

Spit and dubrovnik are both rather lovely, you can stay on the islands off the coast at spit which are really really nice.0
-
Montenegro (just for a change from Croatia which was my first choice). The Dalmatian coast is stunning.0

Santorini
+ 1 !
I was there in the mid 70's. VERY Romantic...!!!
Totally unspoilt, as was Paros too.
Delos is the most sacred Greek Island, and worth a day trip.
Fantastic, eerie and atmospheric place.
If it's good enuff for Jason, Theseus, and the Greek Gods, it's good enuff for me!0 -
Venice is very hard to beat IMHO.
I once said 'never go back' there are enough places in the world to go to without repeating yourself , but I was happy to make an exception in the case of Venice.

Me and the Mrs hired a Landmark trust property for our honeymoon, which was very romantic. Closer to home than Europe, so you could even cycle!

We could only get away (from kids) for a long weekend, so we didn't want to spend ages travelling.0 -
Come to Bolton. You can loan out a shotgun from me and shoot chavs for sport. All the cool kids are doin' it.http://www.youtube.com/user/Eurobunneh - My Youtube channel.0

How long do you want to go for, may I ask?"There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0

My wife and I did a two centre job: Barcelona, followed by Sitges. It pretty much had it all. Might be worth considering a two centre job if funds permit.
We have since been to Venice and that really is something special (but not cheap), as per snakehips.
Oh, Bunneh, I thought you had misspelt "clays"...and then I reread your post0 -
Venice is good but expensive. You could go to Verona from there and have a two centre holiday and Trieste is supposed to be nice. The Croatian coast/Dubrovnik is supposed to be good. Sardinia (Italian) and Corsica (French) are supposed to be lovely. Provence is lovely in Summer but then the Alps are glorious when the sun shines. Depends what you want to do. You're on honeymoon so a nice hotel with a large bed may be all you require but then you might want to walking or sightseeing so mountains or a historic city might be better
If your partner likes shopping then Italy is always good.M.Rushton0 -
I took my wife to ilfracombe. Don't go there, we only did it 'c os we were very skint.0

Seriously, give it some thought:
Think about what SHE would like to do because it turns out that this is the only thing that matters. (Mrs Pneumatic reacted to my "let's hire a bike for a day" in the Pyrenees by throwing her rented steed into the hedge!)
If you are going straight after the nuptials, make it really easy to get to. You'll be knackered and the last thing you need is plane changes, long transfers and hassle. (Mrs P was less than impressed with the 8 hour train journey to the South of France!)
This year, think about ash clouds and what might be the safest option. Three nights at the Art Deco Burgh Island Hotel in South Devon will cost you a fortune but may turn out to be much better value than 30 hours in the Holiday Inn at Heathrow.
BTW, Mrs P and I will be celebrating 20 years wed this Summer ("if we actually make it to August", reminds Mrs P !!)

Good point. I know honeymoons are not judged for their practicality but flying might be an unnecessary risk.

The Amalfi coast in Italy is extremely scenic / romantic. You can get good package deals to Sorrento eg. Thomsons. Cruises are relatively good value these days - Celebrity X etc. Or perhaps hire a place in Nice?'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0

We went here http://www.gulivers.com/6905 although the price seems to have gone up a bit since we wed.
It was amazing - Hydra is a beautiful little island, no cars (but no bikes either), all groceries are delivered by donkey. You have amazing views over the village, your own little swimming pool, hammocks, (non-working!) canon. The windmill itself is cute (but not incredibly luxurious), but you have your own kitchen so you can cook your own meals, it is quiet and out of the way.
There is a little donkey there (or used to be) who was v friendly and after the hubbub of getting married - this was an idyllic retreat for us.
Easyjet to Athens, I think we got a taxi or bus to Pireaus (the port) and a 2 hour ferry ride to Hydra. Cheap as chips to get there and enough of an "adventure" to make it exciting, but easy enough to make it stressless. 2 days in Athens on the way back - poking around architectural sites etc etc was amazing.http://www.georgesfoundation.org

I went to Vodnjan on the Istrian coast last year - lovely. Nearby was Rovinj, which was one of the prettiest places I've seen in a long time. Not ridiculously cheap, but not expensive either. With a strong Venetian influence it's a bit like Italy but without the price tag...Road bike FCN 6

True. Remember a horror story from a friend of mine who paid the equivalent of £10 (many moons ago - back in the days when it was Lira) for half a coke! Mind you, he was in St Mark's Square :roll:Road bike FCN 6

We went to Lake Como In Northern Italy. No real beaches there but the landscape is stunning and sitting in the breakfast room of the Grande Hotel Tremezzo watching the clouds roll over the Mountains onto the Lake is probably something i'll never forget.
Not cheap there but quite unforgettable.0 -
