Ha. The European-American divide is palpable. It's only fair for Lance to have talked up the race, albeit at the expense of upsetting us haughty Europeans. He can't win. Poor bugger.

Most of them haven't heard of Italy let alone the Giro

Reuters referred to it as the 'Tour of Italy' in one report. Not wrong, obviously. Just seems a bit weird.

One of my American colleagues who is seriously into cycling these days (i.e. we train together 3 or 4 times a week) called the Giro the "Tour de Italy" the other day... Another American colleague, who is also a cyclist, pronounced it "Gay-ro de Italia" ...

What happened to Cav in Stage 2? I see he lost 17 minutes, was that just due to climbs? The pictures appear to show quite a large bunch contesting the finish but the Eurosport summary suggested it was quite a hilly stage.

I think it was only a group of about 20, if you look at the results on cn.com.

The main favourites, like Leipheimer, Zabriskie and Rogers were all there. Shame there were no TV pictures, could've been an interesting one to watch - some splits on the climbs and a few crashes on a wet and technical descent.

Also an interesting top three on the stage - Brett Lancaster got a good win for CTT, Peter Sagan continued his good form and Lars Boom got 3rd. Wonder if Sagan might be up for the overall.

Specialized should be red, like a Colnago should be black and a Bianchi celeste...

It's hommage to the old Specialized Allez's which were red. Have you ever seen American Flyers? 25 years ago.
