Not at all relevant but according to In Our Time on R4 this morning, Schiehallion was used in 17th/18th century attempts to calculate the weight of the Earth
I'm sure it was a bit more technical than that but I've been in meetings for the last 7 hours so what's left of my brain has gone to mush.0 -

The Etape has a couple of thousand metres of ascent. Trossachs Ton has over 4000....
...and it's not even in the Highlands.
