I'm proud to say that for over 15 years I haven't bought a newspaper in this country... as far as I'm concerned they're all sh*te. I have read international newspapers in English when abroad, not sure if they have had any bias, but they have been an ok read on the beach/cafe etc - you do get comment from around the world on those, which is quite interesting..... but I do take the CP with me.... !0

I realised just how poor some journolists are when I worked on a new entrance for a supermarket about 12 years ago. I was approached on site by a guy who told me he worked in the building next to the works (a local newspaper building) but didn't mention anything about being a journo or ask whether I'd be prepared to give him an interview. He said he was just wondering what work was going to be taking place and what the impact would be. I gave him some brief details including telling him that all works were developer funded and that there was no cost to the tax payer (if anything the Council was making money out of the scheme) and gave him my name and contact details in case there were any problems or issues during the works. The following week a colleague presented me with a copy of the said paper with a full page article which misquoted me and the remainder was just complete rubbish including that it was costing the tax payer £500,000 (twice what it was actually costing the Developer!!). On the plus side he got my surname wrong and the company name completely wrong so there was never any comeback on me0

He had his moments... Chiefly the one where Hislop slapped him down for being stupid."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"
