Just been along the Errwood Reservoir today and there are signs up to say the road will be closed for 11 weeks from 17th May. The closure signs are either end of the one-way stretch (i.e. by the car park at the bottom of The St and the car park at Derbyshire Bridge).

I looked on the DCC website to find out more info but there is nothing there. I did notice, however, that the Macc Rd from Whaley Bridge to Macc will be surface dressed at some point in the coming months.

Thanks for the info - I was going to lead a clubride up there in a couple of weeks.

And isn't the Polka Dot Spud Riley going up the Goyt next month ?

TO FACILITATE REPAIRS DUE TO LANDSLIP

Bit of a shame, that's my favourite road! If only to repair some landslip, as opposed to resurfacing it all, maybe bikes will be able to get through during the work...
  • They pick a great time to do this don't they, just at the start of summer when all the tourists start turning up. They did a smiliar thing on one fo the bends on Long Hill.

As rdt said its right at the top of the road near derbyshire bridge. Might be able to walk around the works.

If it's the top of the road near Derbyshire bridge where the road's cut into the hillside on one side and there's that stone-block-and-metal-bars barrier to stop you falling into the stream on the other, problem walking round that...

Excellent - that's what we wanted, someone to actually go and have a look !
  • are you SURE its doable?

going there on saturday. does it look like the situation could change as the days / weeks go on or will it be doable throughout? what are they doing to the road?
  • they are still doing the raves down there so it cant be closed too heavily. :D

It looks like things might change as the works progress - appears they are just getting started. Think it will be OK at the weekend - maybe not such a good idea midweek when they'll be working. There were fences at both ends but they had gaps in. We went up at 9.30am Sunday and the soundsystem from the rave was still going!

I tried to phone the council last week to get some info but no-one answered at their end.

They were all at the rave off their t*ts on crystal meth.

    Ahhhhh, that explains a lot...

I went for a ride up Long Hill early on Sunday am. Saw a group of 6 or 7 'yoofs' wandering down the hill in the direction of Whaley. Thought it was a bit strange at 7:45 on a Sunday.

Great area for riding around the Goyt Valley.

I am baffled at what on earth they're building that's gonna take 11 weeks though.
I mean, how hard can it be to rattle off a few road repairs and what not...

    :-P

Was up there last night and no way to pass. Had metal fencing completely blocking the section off from hill to stream so no way through

Whether the fence is there for the weekend or not I don't know.

I went that way a couple of weeks ago towards Buxton.
I had to climb over the first fence via stone wall and lift my bike round, at the other end the metal barriers had a small gap big enough to get through.Unfortunately it didn't help the 2 motor cyclists who eagerly wanted to get through.
Its a bit strange that its completelt blocked as I was under the impression a walk way had to be kept open for pedestrian access? Its a long walk round other wise

EDIT: Rode up here this afternoon and spoke to the workmen at Derbyshire Bridge. They reckon another 6-8 weeks before it's finished, depending on the weather. :(

You can get around (though we didn't bother) if you carry your bike over the brook and then alongside it for some way until you're past the fencing. The fellas reckoned plenty of people have done that, though it might be a laugh too far in road shoes. If there was no one working there, maybe it's easier :?:

Thanks for posting an update - was going to head over that way this week and I was wondering if it was now passable. Shame it's not :(

The Cat and Fiddle road up from Buxton is also being resurfaced and they're making it very heavy going indeed. I'd really be careful coming down from the Cat towards Buxton as it's very rough and you can get some real speed up on these stretches.

It's punctures at 35 mph waiting to happen at the moment please be careful !

I am soon to be a proud resident of the Cat and Fiddle once my bank sort everything out. :)

Was up there today. They've been working for ages now. Night only though, never seen anything happen during the day, there would be too much disruption. I know first hand, as I use the road every night/early morning for commuting.

I might have a look some day, I mean, if I can't go through it only means I have to turn around, and choose 2 very steep climbs, so no loss.

Derbyshire CC website indicates a 27 August end date for these repairs.

But is the road still actually closed?

    Cheers.

It's open at the moment, despite some of the 'closed' signs still being in place.

BUT, the works aren't finished yet - e.g. it's not been resurfaced - so I there's a chance you might be unlucky and find it impassable if they're doing that, I suppose.

Good for the weekend though, at least.
