New Golden Cheetah

I've just installed the latest (built on the 2nd May) GC for Windows: Golden Cheetah

Its not the official release yet, but everything seems to work and its a HUGE step forward from 1.3 (which was already very good).

It now includes plotting of metrics over time, mapping and something called Aerolab (that I'm not really sure what to do with). There's also keyword colour coding in the calendar view which is pretty cool.

Its basically bloody brilliant :D

It's an auto implementation of the Virtual Elevation (Chung) method of assessing aerodynamics.

    Thanks Alex.

A quick Google found this on estimating CdA using virtual elevation.

Great find - have tucked it away for later :)

    Thanks for the plug!

There are loads of other minor things in there like configurable colors on plots, a stacked view of a ride plot and support for Joule FIT and Polar SRD format files.

There are lots of other features on there way too, I have developed a 2d scatter plot, TrainingPeaks upload/download and a bunch of new ride metrics. But they are likely to arrive in the autumn.

Since most of the devs are now racing their socks off the likelihood of a formal new release in the short term is looking unlikely, but you never know!

It really is a very impressive bit of software now. That it's free is great, but I'd happily pay good money for it - its THAT good! I'm so glad I didn't waste my money on WKO+.
