I think I already know the answer to this, but I'm seeking some positive reinforcement here!
I'm in really good nick at the moment, the last 4 racing goals i've set myself (well 2 racing and two Sportives) i've achieved and I'm really up on confidence (for once) and looking forward to trying to beat my best ever time of 6:19 on the Fred Whitton at the weekend.
I came down with Shinlges last week, however, and whilst my resting HR is fine and my training rides have gone really well the last few days, my coach has advised me not to do the 16 mile TT i was really looking forward to tomorrow, and to d on ly really easy 1/2 hour rides until Sunday. I'm not going to lose it all in a week am I?

Fitness loss? None to speak of...
A month may make a difference, even 2 weeks...maybe, but not a week.
Your body will thank you for it !0 -
No I dont think a week will make any measurable difference fitness wise - but shingles ain't funny - will you be free of it in just a week - soory but I'm under the impression it can drag on a bit....hope you get better soon tho'0

It's been a week now... It aint funny. But it is on it's way out now. I'm scabby rather than blistered It's clearing up quite fast.
Hasn't affected my riding form as far as I can see. It's just bloody sore when it flares up!"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

You wont loose any fitness after a week mate, but after a week it starts going downhill slowly. Im now starting to get better after having 4 months off and my fitness levels are back to April last year.....Cycling never gets any easier, you just go faster - Greg LeMond0

Things like this happen to us, often at bad times but you have to be prepared for them and take off the necessary time from racing and training to recover.
You will be able to come back with the fitness you had easily enough.0 -
looking at the nhs website it said shingles last for between 2 and 4 weeks. I wouldn't push it too hard in case you're slowing down recovery, the visible signs may go but the problem may still be there. and anyway, a week off riding isn't too bad.0
