Richmond Park

Hi...thinking of heading over to RP tomorrow for a bit of training.
A couple of questions:

Does it get really busy during the day with cars?
If so, what's the best time to go and what time does it close?
Also, is the 20mph thing enforced by the park's police?

thanks
R

Yes, on a nice day. With bikes and cars, but only the cars hold you up - queues for car parks being one reason.

Early morning (before 8 or 9) or after 6pm, if you want clearer runs.

Yup. The Police do stop cyclists. Just keep an eye out for them. They often park opposite the turning down to Ham Gate (where you might be doing 25+ coming from Richmond Gate/Pembroke Lodge).

The cars are a bit of a hassle at peak time when they're dawdling along to watch the deer or stuck behind a slower cyclist or waiting to turn but mainly it's frustrating to work your a** off climbing the hills then having to sit on the brakes on the downhill because of crawling cars and oncoming traffic. It's still a pretty good circuit for being so accessible though and I see a lot of TT types going for it.

Yikes, I'll be more careful in future. I hadn't really thought about it until recently and have been hitting 35-40 mph with a clear path ahead.

Speaking of Richmond Park - does anyone know the gradient for the main clockwise hill? Average / max?

Someone's previously mentioned over 10% at it's max, but no idea myself.

For me, 1 hour hard is a regular training session, so certainly once a week is not unreasonable.

hi...what's Richmond Park like after work on weekday?
I'm thinking of heading over after work tomorrow . Should get there around 5pm. Is it busy then or not too bad?

    cheers

I ride through from 6.30 onwards and it's great. It's busier at 5pm from the few occasions I've ridden there at that time, but it's still great.
