  • Cool, you'll have to come and say hello. I'll be the one with the white '09 Kona Cindercone, red helmet and gloves and 'what the hell am I doing here?' expression! You coming up for the Saturday as well?

I'll keep my eye out for you, I'll be the 6ft 2" drip with the Merlin malt 2 with pink tat on it lol and my name on the top tube in pink..i'm not hard to miss lol.
I'm trying to talk the hubby into staying overnight, if I do manage to talk him into it i'll be later arriving, got the horse to muck out before I can play lol......I'm looking forward to it, never done anything like it before :D

  • I'll look out for someone towering over me then - I'll be the short haired, tattooed 5'1" midget with the nose ring.

We're definitely going to be there for the Saturday, I don't want to miss out on the opportunity for some free skills coaching. Feeling a bit nervous about the ride but between the excitement of the day and the miles I should be able to get in during the rest of June it should go ok. My bloke and his mate have signed up for the full one but I thought 80km+ was probably a bit ambitious for a first MTB marathon...

  • Hello- I'm new here (2nd post!) and looks like I'm the furthest north of anybody else so far as I live near Edinburgh. I do a lot of riding locally and further into the north of Scotland where the really good stuff is and our great access rights mean that we don't have the whole bridleway/footpath/"you can't ride here" nonsense. Also get to Glentress a fair bit as it's less than an hour from home.

Have you ridden the Glentress red before? Otherise i'm not sure what level you're at, but i've ridden the red and it's more flowy than super-techy. I have to walk bits on more technical reds (and most blacks  ) but remember being able to tackle most of Glentress and REALLY enjoying it :D

Anyway, you'll have a super time regardless of which route!

It'll be my first time at Glentress :D
I;ve ridden Llandegla, Grizedale, Gisburn Forest, Whinlatter, coed y brenin reds, but had to get off over some bits, I've heard that the Scottish reds are even more techy than the english /welsh ones, I don't want to scare myself too much  so I thought I'd go blue, bit I might have a sneaky peek at the red at Glentress though, be rude not to :D

I would put it on par with coed-y-brenin if that helps - although everyone sees these things differently! Enjoy :D

Oooh, when are you going, we're going to be there in July as well! :D

Glentress red is good fun, did it for the first time last year - I was rubbish at it, ended up doing a handstand on one bit, and the Matrix section nearly made me cry, but I still loved it! :P If you go during the week it's normally fairly quiet, and even at weekends it's fairly rare to meet someone on the trail, as although there's a lot of bikers around, they're quite spread out across the different trails.

    I'd give Innerleithen a miss though! :P

Going up on the 24th July for 4 days, camping so I have to rent a bike from the Hub, as we've nowhere safe to leave my bike.....bit poo really, but at least I get to ride Glentress at last :D

Would love to try Glentress but maybe when ive got a bit more confidence with drop offs, currently looking for a good skills course that isnt a £1000 quid! Looks like ill have to stick to the locality of Doncaster, Dalby and Sherwood pines for the moment!

Great to see some other MTB girlies on here, think im getting too old to be thowing myself from things soon, im 31 this year!!!!

I've just turned 32 and I'm still throwing myself down hills with abandon lol ...tiz great fun.
as for courses, you could do worse than come over to either Gisburn forest or Lee Quarry in lancashire for a ladies skill course with Ed Oxley, I went on a course with him last weekend and he's ace..and only £60 too :D

I feel a right old fogey here. 37 years young, me.

Although having said that I think I"m probably in better shape and more able on a bike than I was 5 years ago!

ETA: Been out of the game a bit lately - I've been bogged down with coursework and hubby put his shoulder out of joint and was ordered off the bike for a couple of months. He's literally only just about starting to get out again and yesterday we did an hours worth of pootling round local bridleways and tracks. Bit tame maybe, but nice in the sunshine and didn't involve lugging bikes in and out of cars and driving for an hour to get anywhere, which always makes a nice change.

Cycling into work a lot at the min (1.5hrs round trip) to try and get/keep vaguely fit (and sit-bones acclimatised!) ahead of upcoming week's hols in the Alps in August.

If you can get yourself out to Lee Quarry or Gisburn there seems to be some good and cheap skills courses available. I've been looking at doing one but it probably won't be until next year as at the moment the main thing that holds me back is my fitness.

I'm desperate to get to Glentress and hoping I can arrange a trip in the next 6 weeks or so, before I have an ankle operation in August and have to take a few months off mountain biking. It looks amazing!!!

    If its any consolation I'm 40 but think I'm still 30! :)

I'm looking forward to the skills lesson that I have booked in August with Ed Oxley. I'm hoping that he will help me think that I'm still in my 20's!! :D

    Pixie,
If you do a skills course in Gisburn on Lee Quarry with Ed Oxley you don't need to be race fit as you only do about 8 miles in the whole day, you go over parts of the trail refining your skills, it's brilliant as I'm not fit but I coped :D

Oh dear, I've just logged on to this forum to see if there's any other girls riding regularly in my area but then I saw this thread - now I'm wondering if I should retire having reached the grand old age of 43!!!!!

  • Hello, site newbie here.

I've been looking for an online mtb forum with a section for women for a while - glad to have found this place. I didn't realise what a masculine world mtbing is until I came online!

Brief intro: I've just turned 27, live in Lincoln, bought my first real bike last summer, discovered Sherwood Pines this month and have been there twice so far. Looking forward to getting to know people on hear and hopefully learning a thing or two. :)
  • Well i've getting out alot with shecycles lot, there's mthly rides next 1 Sunday 25th July.
I've found that on here it takes a age to get a response, think that's why i don't realy bother.
  • It seems fairly active in here to me, much more so than other forums I've checked out. :)

Its good to find other women who ride!
Or in my case wheeze and swear my way around Dartmoor!- getting left behind on the fast bit by my hubbie, but being better on the technical bits (he weighs less!!)
    Wheeze..... Gasp..... Ruddy hills.......
