Im not being a big wuss, I have MS and I have to be careful
I was out yesterday through Drumbo and Lisburn and thats up and down territory and then some. I got through it and was settling back down again for the ride through Belfast and back to Ards and then I saw it.....
Best`s Hill in Castlereagh, id heard of it, but had never seen it before. Wouldnt have been as much of a shock if I hadnt come through Drumbo / Lisburn before it, very long and very steep climb . 8 mph and 34/25 gearing the entire way for me the whole way up, imagine the relief upon getting to the other side. Im going to have to avoid that climb if ive already been climbing hard prior to coming to it.
Where I live we have Church Road in Holywood , Craigantlet in East Belfast ( long 11 % ) and the excruciating Rocky Road ( 20% ) in South Belfast where its alarmingly easy to overheat the body and Ive got to add Best`s Hill to the list. Not to say I run away from them, well maybe Rocky Road, but Ive just got to be wary and remember my MS . I darent ignore that at my peril.
Are there any hills in your area that you either avoid or have to watch yourself on ?

when you look on an OS map, hills between 14-20 % gradient should be marked with one arrow and hills from 20-30% with two arrows but ive found some hills are not as steep as the maps would have you believe, but some are steeper than the OS maps say, near me Rockingham Hill outside Corby on the A6003 has no arrow but the three times ive been up it my Garmin has made it 16%, i know its plenty steep as recently a 40 ton mobile crane lost his brakes and crashed into a cottage on the hill, another hill nearby in Rutland, Kings Hill just before Uppingham on the B664 has an arrow on the OS map and i avoided it for ages until i tried it and found it was only 10% at its worst so dont always believe the OS maps until youve tried them yourself.0

So, where is this Best's hill then? I've done the Hollywood Church Road, but I've never heard of Best's.0

Try Hogtrough Hill Kent, the first 300-400m is 22% (according to Garmin) it then levels out to around 10%.0
