Looking to buy a new pair of bib shorts and wanted peoples advice.
I have heard that Assos are the best bib shorts you can buy, however do I buy a bottom of the range pair of Assos for £100+ or buy a mid or top of the range pair Altura or Endura etc ?
Cheers

you need 'good' shorts - not necessarily 'assos' shorts. You can buy a good pair of bibs for a lot less than £100. ENdura FS260 pro or Lusso Pro Gel are both very good value. But there's plenty of other options too...0

got 2 pair of assos bib shorts...had em both for at least 3 years...done thousands of miles in em, including a 9 day 1000 mile Lands End to John O Groats and never had a problem
undoubtedley there are other great shorts from other manufacturers but my advice would be to check arounfdon the net and get a pair of assos at the best price you can find0 -
+1 for Assos... Any model level in their rangeStart with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0

Even the lowest of the Assos range outlast and outperform anything similar. If you can afford them go for it.
You will save money by not having to replace them after a couple of years compared to other makes.0 -
+2 Assos0

Santini are a good option - they supply many pro teams. Check out Prendas Ciclismo: http://www.prendas.co.uk/Cycling weakly0

Ribble's current offers you can get a pair of Assos FI Uno S5's for a shade under £100. Use the code trip7 in the basket. http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/

I bought two pairs of FS260 Pro Endura shorts in 2004/5
These shorts are technically excellent. They wick really well and keep you dry even on hot days.
I do approx 10,000km a year typically
On the first pair the stitching on the pad is coming undone and there is a small split near the straps. Both pairs are both still comfortable
I have another two pairs on order now. 5 or 6 years heavy use is perfectly ok for any garment.0 -
I've a brand new pair of Large Endura FS260 Pros for sale. Great shorts, but just too big for me, and couldn't return them. Will take £30 for them if you're interested.Scott Scale 20 (for xc racing)

That's a good price, they are over 50 quid new0 -
Just looking at the Asso bib shorts on Ribble and I am kind of in between a L and XL, do they come up big or small ?0

Giordana Tenax rock, check Ribble for a good price. One of the cycling magazines rated them as better than Assos, plus they are half the price.https://www.bikeauthority.cc/

Well I am 6.1" and 34" waist so according to the chart I should be buying a XL0
-
Similar size to me and I have always gone for XL in Assos without any problems.

Sorry to be pain but just about to order some bib shorts now and it states black with logo or just black, whats the difference ??
Please don;t say it has an Assos logo on, if it does have a logo is it Assos down the leg or a small square etc ?0 -
Assos down the leg as far as I can recall - none to subtle imo!

i got myself some uno fi shorts on saturday., they seem really good on first wear. i also hand washed them in the fancy detergent since it was provided.
do long time assos owners use the assos detergent? how do you wash them? i'd rather not arse around using it but if it will make a noticable difference ill use it.
i went without logo btw, i didn't buy them to show people how much i can/will spend on shorts"Unfortunately these days a lot of people don’t understand the real quality of a bike" Ernesto Colnago0 -
I was going to buy some Castelli bibs but seeing all the posts praising Assos I bought some F1 Uno S5 from Ribble, I paid £95.57 using the code take10 in the discount box at checkout.
Size wise I am 6ft but a bit of a skinny ribs, went with Large, gripper is not as tight as I would have liked but ok, did a 58 miler yesterday and must say they were very comfortable.0 -
i have the giordana body clones and assos mille s5. whilst the giordana are very good, the assos are just that bit better in every dimension.
i am 5 11 and 34 inch waist. bought L, ( would have been Ok with XL) L are a good fit, when i am less than 80kg!! ( summer weight) tight when standing up, perfect on the bike. you will notice the difference after 2 hours ... trust the assos sizing chart.0 -

So do you reckon a medium would have been better?winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

No, they are a snug fit around waist and crotch, I think it's because I have skinny legs.0 -

do you have Gore Xenons to compare with..?0 -
If I could afford to waste money just to compare I would buy some Assos shorts, but I can't so until I'm given a free sample pair I'll continue to say that my Gore shorts are great0

Nor can i, i only have cheapo ones at the mo but keep reading how great Assos are, maybe my credit card wont mind but don't want to regret it. My cheap regular shorts are more comfy than the cheap bibs, hmmmmm :?winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

Hi all, thanks for your help in guiding me to my next pair of bibs. Uno F1 S5 from ribble with all its discounts £96 ish. Got the L but the bibs pulled down on my shoulders and shorts were very tight which was weird cos Im 5ft 11, 12 stone and slim.
The grippers I also found to be loose. Now got XL and comfy as anything but shorts only go couple inch above my knee! ah well, any advice? (Old shorts were 'Dales ands were sooper comfy. Oh and I only got a lousy wash net with my F1's, no cream, wash stuff etc. Not even a sticker. Rubbish.....
