    Rules for cool me thinks:

Classic, timeless, prefereably ridden to a famous victory or by a famous (and cool) pro, something not too flashy and (most importantly) Vic P impressing.

So I reckon this must be top?

Sorry can't agree, one of the cruelest as the artist used real butterflies to adorn the bike

i understand only the world of MTB...
this is cool, its understated and stealthy, but extremely capable, and made in a shed in Yorkshire by clever men, with exotic metals....

its the Merc M5 (in matt black  ) of the bike world, understated and technicaly awsome, unlie the the M5 though, this is cool, oh so very cool...

and if you use the R. Atherton test (this is an MTB afterall) its not even nearly overly flash, but it does lookgood, kind of manly and purposefull.
    I like bikes and stuff

  • Surely TT bikes are Seriously uncool - They're like the hypercars of the bike world.

Sub-zero would be the new breed of light-weight steel framed retro looking road bikes
If it wasn't for the belt drive the new £2800 Urban Trek
    Original Raleigh BMXs
Despite how much I don't agree with fixies...they do generally look pretty cool.
    Storck Fenomalist
    Viner Maxima
Anything by Casati :-) (Except the TT model...urgh!)

I think the running theme is simplicity and not being overly whacky.

Understated and not adding random angles and neon colours
    What wheels...? Wheelsmith.co.uk!

Surely any bike geared towards performance is not cool?

We've all seen the 'performance' rap on youtube.

correct, this is a normal cool wall and normal cool wall rules apply, anything hugely expensive, flashy, performance based or you have to tell some about the components its made out of is automatically uncool

    The Oma Fiets

    Omafiets.jpg

    Totally basic.

Never have to faff with 'lubing' the chain or replacing the cassette every 1000 odd kilometres.

Comfier than any race bike by MILES, and only for those who are not in a hurry (and let's be honest, anyone in a hurry is per definition uncool).

It is also as comfy in normal clothes than in lycra (also uncool), and you really do tower over other car drives.

Options also include a button seat, made especially for cycling with a skirt.

    Very cool.

Works for both in my book.
  • Hmmm no it doesn't for me. Lycra, shaven legs and reflective sunglasses is what makes cycling cool, not riding a shoppers bike wearing suspicious clothing....

    Point 1
It's a mountain bike and therefore not cool, though undeniably useful, even ..fun
    Point 2
Brant is in the shed, but he phones a man in China to make them for him. His shed is very tiny. The man in China knows what he's doing, it's entirely possible that Brant doesn't know what he's doing... :)

Rick Chasey got it in one, bingo, thats a cool bike.

No thats a subset of cycling, still there are cool bikes in this area, see the Colnago I posted previously.

I think mtbs can be cool. However, Ragley are NOT cool, I mean just look at the name. Cool mtbs to me are things like the Orange Clockwork (pre 96), Cotic Soul or RM Blizzard.

you are so missing the point, 'shoppers bikes' can be cool .... but not if you are wearing lycra with shaven legs and sunglasses

    its all about the 'package'

The Genesis is not a fixie, and the Bowery has a freewheel option

Sorry, I was just talking about the Bowery. But I don't understand, what advantage does a fixed gear have over a geared bike? They are fashion items, are they not?

What advantage to jeans have over the skin of prey?

They aren't meant to be advantageous, just cool, and they do that
  • Good point! I stand corrected! :)

    I have to say.......

All decent bikes are actually cool. But some are cooler than others
