TOO low position?

Hi.

ive posted pics of my aero position (not actually me riding but the position is the same)

as you can see ive gone beyond the flat back position into an even lower front-end.

it 'feels' more aero and I only lose 1W of power (30 minute test) compared to a flat back. think it feels better because theres no wind on my chest or stomach.

is it more aero though? i have a feeling that a flat back would make the air flow better.

2nd guy is out of the saddle but you get the idea.

I bet their pockets are just filling up with air and acting like brakes.

So you're telling me - you can actually ride like that ? Cos they're only in the tuck position for descending ?

I've done the same thing when I wanted to pick up some speed on a downhill. Less frontal
area is the key as they say and you will pick up speed that way. As for the butt sticking up, well, it's really not. There isn't any place for it to go, unless you want to set on the
top tube. It's sort of a way to brake and accelerate without using the pedals or brakes.
Sit up to slow down, bend over to pick up the speed. At the same time, you're resting, of sorts.

if you hold onto the bars with your teeth, you will then be able to tuck your arms in behind your back.....
  • yes, I do ride like that.

theres about 6 inches between chin and stem when I do it so my dentist will be able to sleep tonight. :)

just read a thread on a TT forum about how 'head down' position is better (though unsafe) even with a pointy hat on because the head cutting off wind to the chest is better than the extra drag of a sail in the air.

so looks like this could be faster....
