went out for a half century on fri afternoon. had a packet of chow mein flavoured super noodles and 2 rounds of butterred burgen soya linseed bread. the bread is low GI food and it makes you feel real full after eating it.i ate the food at 11 am and waited until 1 pm to hit the road with a 750ml bottle of isostar hydrate and perform that i made up.

and boy did i feel strong or what, when i got back home , i could have gone out again for more. the ride was a pleasure and proof that eating properly does indeed help.

anybody else use super noodles for biking food ?

Not tried them as bike fuel but I used to take them when I went camping/hostelling in the mountains years ago, and they fuelled me on some epic days. A tin of tuna mixed in was a particular favourite :)

You just rip the packet open and start munching em raw? How many mouthfuls at a time of super noodles do you have and how long between them?

    Might give them a go.

I sometimes have them when I get in as a quick fuel up before an evening ride. A very well known cycle coach once told me they advised any clients going on a Graham Baxter sportive trip to pack some of these in their case as the food provided was usually insufficient!

you need to be able to replicate this several more times before you can be sure that your good performance was down to 'bread and noodles'.....

My best ever race performance (a whopping 6th place) was down to several pints of lager, bed at 2am, followed by a breakfast of coffee and a bag of donuts. I've tried to replicate this several times since, but it never gave the same result.

Several pints of lager? Bed at 2am? Must have being luck, I'd be lucky to even come last place if I did that. I'd probs not last a single mile before throwing up on someone behind me.

that was the point I was making Will. If you're due a good day, you will have a good day, no matter what. I've never seen any benefit from a proper 'pre-race meal' - I seem to go just as well (or just as badly) after a plate of nachos as I do on a proper high-carb spread...

    jeezus no

add 300ml of boiling water and the flavouring satchet. takes about 5 mins to cook. lovely with the burgen loaf and makes you feel proper full up. i left it for 2 hrs digest and rode like the clappers for 50 miles.

would definitely say try it, it sure worked for me.

Where you gonna get boiling water from? Most cafes would not allow eating food that's not being bought from there place.

I think he's talking about eating before a ride Will - either that or he's towing a stove behind the bike....

im laughing at the thought of me riding along with a tow rope and pulling my cooker along.

grub taken on board pre ride , 2 hrs to let it digest and off I went.
